How To Make Beef Bone Broth At Home

Make sure to use organic ingredients and grass-fed beef bones. Just ask your local butcher and they should be able to give you what you need. This recipe is perfect for making in batches and stores well in the refrigerator for easy use. See step-by-step photos below.

If you get tired of drinking beef bone broth, try making a chicken version. I love turning the bone broth into an egg drop soup. Here is how to make chicken bone broth in the Instant Pot .

  • Total Time:24 hours 15 mins
  • Yield:1.5-2 litres 1x
  • A few cloves of garlic

A Step By Step Guide To Making Bone Broth

The first things you want to get are some good beef soup bones and neck bones from a grass fed source if possible. I buy a quarter side of beef every 4-6 months so I always request these bones when the butcher is asking for my cuts.

You should also be able to get healthy bones from your local health food store. You might be surprised how much meat is still attached to these bones. This will add some great flavor to your broth. This recipe is adapted from the Weston A Price Foundations recipe.

The first thing you want to do is brown your bones on both sides. I just browned my Soup bones. Once browned Remove from pan and add to stock pot. Add some hot liquid to the pan that you just browned the bones and heat to a boil and scrape all the little bits of flavor off the pan and add that to the stock pot. If your bones are too big to brown on the stove top, you can add them to a roasting pan and roast them in a 350º F oven for 20-30 minutes or until browned.

Add the neck bones to the stock pot and 1/2 cup of vinegar. I used organic apple cider vinegar.

Add enough filtered water to cover the bones. I added about 5 quarts of water.

Allow to sit for 1 hour at room temperature. This is a very important step. This helps in pulling the natural gelatin out of the bones making your broth very nutritional.

Strain your vegetable beef mixture out of broth. I use a colander to get all the big stuff out and then I run it through a fine strainer to get all the finer pieces out.

How To Store And Freeze

  • The soup will keep for 3 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • This soup freezes well, so there’s no need to worry that the recipe makes too much for your family. You might even want to double the recipe if you have a giant pot so you’ll have plenty of soup in the freezer for the next few months. To cool the hot soup quickly, pour it into a large bowl and place the bowl in a pan of ice water. When the soup has cooled, pour it into serving-size or larger zip-top freezer bags or freezer containers, leaving about an inch of headspace to allow for expansion. Freeze soup for up to three months.

Basic Grassfed Beef Bone Broth

Soup Bones : Triple 7 Ranch

There is nothing more nourishing and necessary in a ranch kitchen, or any kitchen, than Beef Bone Broth. Steaming away in pots for centuries, it is the starter for soups, the liquid for pot roasts, the flavour for vegetables, and the base for sauces. Bone Broth contains the life giving nutrients that our bodies need from pasture-raised meats. And it is the ultimate way to make the most out of every possible bit of beef from our beautiful animals. Find a source of grassfed beef Soup Bones from a local producer near you and start simmering!

The ritual of making Bone Broth might be part of its healing nature. It is a mindful practice, requiring a little bit of attention and patience. However, the effort is so rewarding. Once you get the basic method down pat you will never be without Beef Bone Broth on hand.

In our kitchen, simplicity is key. There are hundreds of variations of broth/stock recipes. You can debate endlessly on the merits of just how many hours to cook it, the best seasonings, and what beneficial herbs and medicinal mushrooms to add to the blend. Or you can be like me and just simmer some bones in a pot. I dont add any herbs, vegetables, or salt. I keep it plain and simple and then spice it up when I add it to a recipe. My method is about as easy as it gets.

Add a splash of Apple Cider Vinegar. This helps to leach the minerals out of the bones and increases the nutrient content of your broth.

Why Drink Bone Broth In The First Place

Bone broth is nutrient dense. It contains vitamins and minerals that are easily absorbed by the body including calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, sulfur chondroitin, glucosamine, and a variety of trace minerals. Bone broth is rich in collagen/gelatin which supports healthy digestion and does amazing things for skin, hair and joints. Broth has natural anti-inflammatory properties and inhibits infectionshence it is commonly referred to as Jewish Penicillin. Support skin, joint, and gut health with bone broth & soups.

If you want the digestive and immune boosting benefits of bone broth, you have to be drinking bone broth made from a healthy animal .

It is important to use bones that contain high levels of protein called collagen. Collagen is jam packed with many beneficial amino acids. Cooking the bones, breaks down the collagen into a softer more digestible form called gelatin.

Gelatin contains glycine and glutamine- both amino acids found in large quantities in bone broth- this maintains the integrity of the intestinal wall and helps with leaky gut syndrome
