This lunchbox is really cleverly designed. It’s stainless steel, with a brightly coloured silicone strap . The strap also holds a stainless steel fork on the outside of the box. There’s a removable divider that slides up and down to make two compartments of whatever size you fancy.
Unusually, you can put the base section in the oven. It’s also safe to use in the freezer, so when not pressed into service as a lunchbox, it can be used for freezer meals. However, it’s not microwaveable, and is only partially dishwasher-safe .

The box is lovely to look at and despite having no clips, is leakproof. It seals with a valve that you open and close. We packed a salad and liberally drizzled olive oil over it before turning the lunchbox upside down and swinging it about a bit, but it didnt leak a drop.
We also checked to see if it was big enough for a sandwich. It needed to be cut in half, but the box was tall enough for the sandwich halves to be stacked on top of each other. There was room for a small salad too.

The Black+Blum stainless steel lunch box is by far the most versatile model you can buy. You can use it to cook a meal in the oven, to transport your lunch, and to store meals in a freezer. It contains a movable divider, which I used to separate a sandwich and pita chips. This is a great container if you frequently pack separate lunch components that you don’t want to touch each other. When I opened it up come lunchtime, my sandwich and chips were secured in their original sections.
The lid is very tightit even has a vacuum valve and a silicone strap to double up on lid security. The container also comes with a stainless-steel fork, which feels more like using real cutlery than the plastic varieties that are often included. Plus, it’s slim and easy to slide into your bag without taking up too much space. The only downside to this container is that it’s not microwave-safe, though you could slid it into a toaster oven if you’re lucky enough to have one at work.
How Do You Keep Lunch Containers Safe
The food stays safe if the container is well-insulated. You can ensure that in several ways. Pack the lunch the night before, and store it in the fridge. Add a cold pack to the lunch container before leaving the house, especially if it contains yogurt or cheese. Finally, if applicable, keep the container out of direct sunlight or heat.

All of the tested jars use the same basic temperature retention methods: double-wall vacuum insulation. They varied in thickness, dimensions, and coating material. They also varied in capacity. In the exact same conditions, a large volume of water will cool more slowly than a small volume of water. For the purposes of this test, I filled all jars with the same volume of food to even the playing field.
All of the jars started with soup at 202°F. In a 70°F room, none of the thermoses that I tested were able to keep the soup above 160°F for six hours, but some came closer than others. The MAXSO food jar held its contents above 160°F for over two hours, making it the top performer on this test. The Stanley Master Unbreakable Food Jar, the Stanley Adventure, and the Zojirushi stainless steel jar also did well, falling only a few degrees behind the MAXSO. The Hydro Flask jar was disqualified after its contents dropped by over 50°F in just two hours.
