How Long Does Canned Chicken Noodle Soup Last
In most cases, a can of chicken noodle soup that has not been opened will maintain its highest possible quality for around three to five years if it is stored properly, but it will almost certainly still be safe to consume after that point.
In a large saucepan, combine the chicken bones, veggies, and any herbs or spices that you choose to use.
What Kind Of Noodles Should You Use For Great Chicken Noodle Soup
Chicken noodle soup is traditionally made with wide egg noodles. When youre vegan, you cant have egg noodles.
However, a few brands out there make a wide egg noodle minus the egg.
Walmarts store brand has one, and it works great in this soup.
With that being said, you can use whatever noodles you would like.
Just make sure that the noodle will not fall apart easily after being left in the warm broth for an extended amount of time.
No one wants their noodles to disappear in their soup, or maybe you do- Im not judging.
How To Make Chickpea Noodle Soup
1. Sauté the veggies. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat, and saute the onion, carrots and celery until tender, about 8 minutes.
Add in the garlic, tamari , and thyme, and stir briefly for 1 more minute.
2. Simmer. Add the noodles, chickpeas, and water, then season with salt and pepper.
Bring the broth to a simmer, and let the soup cook until the noodles are tender, about 10 to 15 minutes.
3. Enjoy! Adjust any seasoning to taste, then serve warm right away. This soup tastes just as delicious as the version made with chicken, if not better!
This recipe is actually adapted from my popular Chicken & Vegetable Soup, which Ive been making for years with water, instead of broth, too.
I hope youll give it a try, because its such a time saver, and makes this soup more budget-friendly.

How Do You Make Gluten Free Cream Of Chicken Soup
First, saute your chicken in the oil or butter.
Even if you uare using already cooked chicken, this will help to flavor your cream of chicken soup.
Add your gluten free flour to the oil and chicken to make a gluten free roux.
Stir the gluten free flour into the fat and cook until it starts to turn golden and smells slightly nutty.
Youre still making a blonde roux, and not cooking it to a dark brown color.
You want your gluten free roux to have lots of thickening power , while taking advantage of the flavor that you get from toasting the flour.
Cooking the flour keeps your cream of chicken soup from tasting like a floury paste.
Then add the broth and milk and bring it to a simmer.
Let it simmer until thickened,
It will thicken up even more as it cools.
Now your gluten free condensed cream of chicken soup is ready to use in all your favorite recipes!
Cook The Veggies And Herbs
Chop up the onions, celery and carrots. Add olive oil or butter to the bottom of your stockpot or sauce pan and turn it on over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the chopped veggies along with a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Saute them together until the onions become translucent, and the carrots and celery are just fork-tender . Stir occasionally.
Mince the garlic and fresh herbs nice and fine. Next, add the herbs and garlic along with your chopped leafy greens to the pot. We used a combo of cabbage and kale in this batch. Toss in the optional whole bay leaves and minced sage as well. Allow these to cook together for about five minutes, stirring on occasion. This is where the flavor and aroma of your no-chicken noodle soup starts to come to life!

Tips For The Best Vegan Chicken Noodle Soup
- Cut the carrots and celery thinly. This ensures they have enough time to fully cook because when the broth comes to a boil, the pasta will cook quickly and we want them nice and soft by then.
- Add salt and pepper to taste. My homemade broth is fully seasoned, so if you are using one that is not, taste the soup and add your seasoning as needed.
- Stick to smaller cuts of pasta. Small pastas work best in this Vegan Chicken Noodle Soup because they cook easily in the broth and ensure you get a little of everything in each spoonful.
- Use canned chickpeas. While you can soak the dry ones yourself, they take longer to get as tender as you want for this soup. Canned chickpeas will save you time, just drain, rinse, and add.

Campbell’s Organic Chicken & Stars Soup
Moving on to the next soup on our list, Campbell’s Organic Chicken & Stars Soup ranks a little higher, as it retains the fun shapes and kid appeal that the Condensed Chicken NoodleO’s soup offers, but with a better flavor. Plus, it’s not condensed and you can actually see the chicken and carrots in the broth. Just note that there’s also a non-organic Chicken & Stars soup that comes in a can and it’s very, very different. For the benefits described above, you want to go with the organic variant that comes in a box.
This soup also ranks higher than its NoodleO’s counterpart due to the shape of the noodles. The stars provide more textural interest and aren’t as slimy as the O’s. Unfortunately, you will still find that same high amount of sodium in this soup and eating the full box will account for 50% of your daily recommended sodium intake .

How Long Is Canned Soup Good For
According to the USDA, canned goods can last for years however, the can has to be in good condition if thereâs rust, dents, or swelling, toss it. âDates on cans indicate peak quality as determined by the manufacturer. So donât automatically pitch a can with an expired date,â advises the USDA. They suggest that low-acid canned products can be stored for two to five years. On the other hand, high-acid canned products , can last for 12-18 months. If you can foods at home yourself, these have a shorter shelf life and the USDA recommends consuming these foods within one year.
Moral of the story: It depends what kind of soup it is, and if the can is in good shape, but if itâs past the expiration date and the can is in good condition, you may not need to throw it out after all.
