About St Vincent De Paul Soup Kitchen Wilkes
St. Vincent de Paul Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre always needs volunteers. It is opened 7 days a week and volunteers are needed from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. We are in desperate need of help on the weekends and holidays during the summer months. We are opened also on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.St. Vincent de Paul Kitchen also runs a food pantry with volunteer. That is opened Tuesday 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and Thursday 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.St. Vincent de Paul Kitchen also runs a used clothing room and volunteers are needed Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

When you visit us to serve or be served, it’s rarely just about eating. Volunteers create an experience many of us take for granted, an opportunity not only to eat but to meet and greet as well. It’s also a chance to discover other ways to help our guests. Stomachs and hearts are filled in five dining rooms, where 3,500 nourishing, hot meals accompany our hospitality every day. Thanks to recent donor generosity, our Family Dining Room now offers many of the amenities of a supportive home or school atmosphere, including communal reading and group art projects for our younger guests, plus one-on-one tutoring programs and fun educational activities.

Food Assistance

We offer non-perishable food, healthy fresh produce and baked goods, dairy, meat, and personal hygiene items as available.

Appointments are between 9:30am and 11:30am.

Proof of residence in southern Platte county is required at each visit.

Evening appointments are available for our working clients from 4:00 to 6:00 on the third Thursday of each month.

Clients may visit the food pantry once every 30 days.

Food quantity is based on family size.

Two volunteers visit in your home to determine how we can best assist you.

Our Organization Demonstrates Empathy Compassion And Respect
Since 1981, our Soup Kitchen has been serving individuals and families experiencing poverty, hunger, and homelessness a nutritionally balanced, hot noon-time meal seven days a week. Our Food Pantry, which also operates in the same location, distributes weekly groceries to the area poor at no charge.
Our Soup Kitchen serves over 300 cooked meals per day, and our Food Pantry prepares and distributes over 45,000 bagged meals per year.
We could not do any of the work that we do at our soup kitchen and food pantry without the ongoing support of our community.

Join us at the St. Vincent De Paul Soup Kitchen as we serve lunch to individuals and families experiencing poverty, hunger, and homelessness. St. Vincent De Paul through their network of services, supports and empowers people experiencing poverty, homelessness, hunger, and mental health challenges so they may recover with dignity and develop sustainable solutions for a brighter future. Volunteers must be age 14 or older and accompanied by an adult. Closed-Toe shoes are required. Parking is available on-site. Please contact the host at the email provided with any questions.Due to current concerns surrounding the coronavirus , we’re encouraging anyone who feels sick, is elderly, or has a compromised immune system to please put their health first and stay home. Current state safety guidelines will be followed. Your safety and the safety of our Outreach partners is our top priority.

With one of the largest industrial kitchens in the Southwest and five charitable dining rooms, St. Vincent de Paul is able to serve over 1.2 million meals to hungry families and individuals each year.

Spend some quiet time with Jesus! Join us for EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT EVERY WEDNESDAY 6-6:45pm in the church.There will also be Confessions at that time, followed by Mass in Spanish at 7pm.
THE LATEST ON COVID AND OUR CHURCH:Masks are now optional inside the church for fully vaccinated persons. Please do what makes you feel most comfortable. Those not fully vaccinated are asked to consider wearing masks to keep themselves and others safe.Hand sanitizer will still be available at all entrances of the church.

Mobile Soup Kitchen sponsored by SHIP, providing hot meals at 5:30 PM in the parking lot of St. Joseph Church on Mondays, Fridays and the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month.
- Weekly food disbursements through our food pantry at the Parish Center on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month.
- Clothing distribution on the 3rd Saturday of each month at the Parish Center and annual winter coat distribution.
- Distribution of appliances, household items, toys and stuffed animals to families leaving shelters or with other emergency situations.
- Holiday toy giveaway and disbursement of Christmas dinner bags to over 300 people.
- Referrals for medical assistance and HIV/AIDS testing.

How To Volunteer
We are an all volunteer organization and welcome new volunteers. We currently have over 150 volunteers serving those in need in southern Platte county.
Volunteer areas
Food Pantry – Each day, the pantry is staffed by about 25 to 30 volunteers. It takes about 125 volunteers per week just to keep the pantry open and there are many more volunteers doing additional, unique jobs to support the pantry operation. We always need help! Some of the food pantry roles are: greeter, grocery sackers, shelf stocking and Harvester truck unloading and food storing.
Bread and grocery pick-up – Visit businesses donating items and transport these items to the pantry.
Home Visits – a two volunteer team visits the homes of clients requesting emergency financial assistance to determine how we can best assist.
Office and general needs – answer phones, make appointments, maintain records.

Who We Are
We are an outreach ministry of St. Therese Church in the Parkville, MO area providing assistance since 1961.
We serve southern Platte County with food and emergency financial assistance without regard to faith, age, gender, or race.
In 2018, 4,058 households having 12,942 members were served by the food pantry. We provided 39,581 bags of groceries. We also provided financial assistance for 285 electric, 72 gas, and 65 water bills and 120 rent bills. We assisted with 7 other emergencies.
100% of our funding comes from generous donors from our community.
We are an all volunteer ministry with 99% of the donations going towards client assistance.
We are good stewards of your donations.

92.5% of our purchased food comes from Harvesters at a cost of 16 cents per pound to cover handling

Thousands of pounds of food are donated by individuals, and Northland grocery stores and businesses

Clients are visited in their home before financial assistance is offered
We also organize the Christmas Adopt-a-family outreach for our clients. Parishioners volunteer to provide gifts for children in the household.
