How Do You Make Gluten Free Cream Of Chicken Soup
First, saute your chicken in the oil or butter.
Even if you uare using already cooked chicken, this will help to flavor your cream of chicken soup.
Add your gluten free flour to the oil and chicken to make a gluten free roux.
Stir the gluten free flour into the fat and cook until it starts to turn golden and smells slightly nutty.
Youre still making a blonde roux, and not cooking it to a dark brown color.
You want your gluten free roux to have lots of thickening power , while taking advantage of the flavor that you get from toasting the flour.
Cooking the flour keeps your cream of chicken soup from tasting like a floury paste.
Then add the broth and milk and bring it to a simmer.
Let it simmer until thickened,
It will thicken up even more as it cools.

If you love canned cream of chicken soup, then you are sure to want this recipe. I guarantee it will be one of the ones you add to your go to list and keep in an easy access location. Perhaps even dedicated to memory within a very short period of time. This recipe is so versatile & satisfying and a great substitute for anywhere that you would be tempted to open up a can of condensed cream of chicken soup. Our kids love it simply over a plate of steamed kale or as a warm dip for broccoli trees, but we also use it in recipes such as Hawaiian Haystacks, Veggie Pot Pie, and Vegetable & Chicken Stew with Dumplings. - Mushrooms I prefer to buy loose mushrooms, but you can buy pre-sliced mushrooms to save time if you like. You can use your favorite type of mushroom button mushrooms, baby bellas, and shitakes are all good options.
- Shallots and Garlic These vegetables add bold flavor to the soup. Chopped onions or onion powder may be used in place of the shallots if you prefer. One teaspoon of garlic powder could be substituted for the fresh minced garlic.
- Broth You can use vegetable broth, chicken, or beef broth.
- Butter Feel free to substitute your oil of choice for a dairy free version.
- Seasonings Thyme, salt, and pepper help this soup really pop.
- Xanthan Gum This thickening agent means we can use less heavy cream and still get a rich, creamy soup. If you dont have xanthan gum, you could make a gluten-free flour or cornstarch slurry and use that to thicken the soup.
- Heavy Cream For dairy-free or vegan, you can use coconut cream instead. If you would like to lower the fat content, try using whole dairy milk.
Replace Milk And Butter With Dairy
The best way to make sure your cream of chicken soup is out of dairy products is to make your own soup from scratch. As already mentioned, the key to cut down the saturated fats or excess salt and sugar is to use dairy-free ingredients instead of regular dairy products.
So you will need to substitute butter with olive oil or coconut oil, and lactose-free milk options like soy milk, rice milk, almond milk, cashew milk, oat milk, or coconut milk for regular cow milk or goat milk. This is a recipe to make a canned cream soup substitute that’s gluten and dairy free 5 different ways
- cup Olive Oil
- ¼ cup All purpose Gluten free flour
- cup Chopped onion
- 1¾ cup Chicken broth
- cup Non-flavored, dairy-free milk substitute
- 1½ cup Cubed chicken
In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat
Stir in gluten free flour, onion, salt and pepper
Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is bubbly remove from heat
Stir in broth and milk substitute
Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir for 1 minute
Stir in chicken. Remove from heat.

How Long Is Canned Soup Good For
According to the USDA, canned goods can last for years however, the can has to be in good condition if thereâs rust, dents, or swelling, toss it. âDates on cans indicate peak quality as determined by the manufacturer. So donât automatically pitch a can with an expired date,â advises the USDA. They suggest that low-acid canned products can be stored for two to five years. On the other hand, high-acid canned products , can last for 12-18 months. If you can foods at home yourself, these have a shorter shelf life and the USDA recommends consuming these foods within one year.
Moral of the story: It depends what kind of soup it is, and if the can is in good shape, but if itâs past the expiration date and the can is in good condition, you may not need to throw it out after all.

Homemade Condensed Cream Of Mushroom Soup: The Details
I dont know about you, but as the temperatures chill, a bowl of warm soup is the exact kind of comfort food I crave. And cream of mushroom soup is one of our favorites
So, why opt for making it yourself? Our homemade condensed cream of mushroom soup is so easy to make, more flavorful and fresh than what youd find in a can, plus you know exactly what is going into it. Once you opt for homemade condensed cream of mushroom soup, theres no going back!
More Delicious Vegan Holiday Side Dishes:
- 1/4 cupshredded vegan cheddar cheese
Blend the ingredients for the Easy Vegan Cream of Chicken Soup Base. In a large saucepan on medium heat, saute the diced onion in 2 tablespoons of vegan butter until slightly tender, about 4 minutes. Turn the heat to low, and add all the 2 tablespoons of all purpose flour. Continually stir for about 2 minutes to lightly cook the flour.
Pour in the blended cashew mixture, and continue to stir until thickened, about 4 to 5 minutes. Turn the heat off, add 1/4 cup of vegan butter, stir to combine, and set aside
In a large bowl, add the frozen hash browns, vegan yogurt or sour cream, vegan cheese, and thickened Cream of Chicken Soup Base. Stir well to combine, adding salt and pepper to taste.
Pour the sauced potatoes into a 9×13 baking dish, making sure to get everything out of the bowl.
Melt 2 tablespoon vegan butter, and toss with corn flakes, 1/4 cup of shredded vegan cheese, and a pinch of salt.
Top the potatoes with the corn flakes, and then cover with aluminum foil.
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and allow to bake for 15 more minutes, or until the corn flakes are lightly browned and crispy.
Serve warm, or at room temperature.
This dish can be made in advance. Just assemble the casserole, cover, and refrigerate. Bake before serving.
*Be aware that some brands of corn flakes contain D3 which is derived from sheeps wool. Read the labels before purchasing.

Vegan Condensed Mushroom Soup
Casserole fans get ready because today I’m bringing you my Vegan Condensed Mushroom Soup recipe! How fun is that? When I made my cream of mushroom soup recipe I received several questions asking if it could be used to make green bean casserole or other casserole type dishes. That recipe is too thin, so I decided to make a recipe designed specifically for casseroles. That said, you can totally use this recipe to make a delicious creamy soup too!
To thicken the soup I used regular old all-purpose flour but if you are gluten-free, check my recipe notes for an alternative. I also used vegetable broth powder as a hack to add that brothy soup taste without watering down the mixture. I like to keep it simple, but if you like you could also add other spices such as dried thyme, chili flakes, or even a tiny pinch of nutmeg.
Use the soup right away , or you can store it in the fridge for a few days, or even freeze it so you have it ready to go. This recipe makes just one batch but feel free to double or triple the recipe so you have multiple ‘cans’ on hand.
How To Make Whole30
Whole30 people are genius at making recipes work for them. Try these substitutions for some of the ingredients.
- Palm shortening, avocado oil, coconut oil, or clarified butteryour choice
- Double up on the onion and garlic powder, if needed, to counterbalance the coconut flavor
- ¾ cup full-fat coconut milk, cream included
