French Onion Pot Roast In The Instant Pot
Todays recipe is my Instant Pot French Onion Pot Roast. It has a wonderful onion flavor that is very similar to French Onion Soup, and is so delicious.
The electric pressure cooker is so fantastic at cooking certain foods faster than traditional methods, and with more flavor and nutrition .
One of the ways the Pressure cooker shines is when cooking a good old pot roast! They cook much faster and the meat becomes very tender.
I like the chuck roast the best for this recipe as it has the right amount of fat and connective tissue to make the roast super tender once those elements break down.
The issue is that pot roasts need to cook a long time for those tissues to break down and produce that fork-tender meat we all love.
No problem making a tender pot roast in the pressure cooker!

What Cut Of Meat Is Best For Sunday Roast
Chuck roast is probably the best if you ask me, and pretty cheap too. If you want a bit leaner cut, but willing to spend more you could use a sirloin, top rump or fillet.
What is the most flavorful roast?
Rib eye roast is known to be the most popular. With some fat to make it tender and great flavor, its a great choice.
Do you have to brown a roast before putting it in the Crockpot?
It is not a must. Some prefer to have the outside browned with some olive oil in a pan on the stovetop before cooking, but to make prep quicker you can skip that step.
Should I turn roast in slow cooker?
This isnt necessary either. The steam and hot liquid will get the top and bottom just as tender. You can if you really think you must.
I do suggest using the combination of broth and beer for the most flavor possible. Those and the dry soup mix create the most amazing pot roast recipe.
Time needed:;8 hours.

While our roast is going to pick up plenty of flavors during its long roast time in the oven, a little salt and pepper will go a long way! Give your roast a quick hit of salt and pepper- make sure you pat it in real well.
Additionally, were going to give our roast a quick coating of flour as well. This will help with browning once you start searing it.
Youll then want to roast this in a large pan or dutch oven. Make sure to brown it on all sides.
Remove your beef roast from your pan but leave any drippings in the pan. Were going to add some flour to our roast juices here to make a quick roux.
Allow that roux to cook for a little bit. Once the raw flour smell to cook off and your roux has cooked to a nice, rich brown, youll want to add a packet of your onion soup mix. How To Make Mississippi Pot Roast:
Heat up a large skillet on high. Add oil to hot skillet. You want it really hot here to brown or “sear” the beef quickly. Note: I have one of those nifty new Ninja slow cookers that has a “stovetop” option, which means I can brown the meat all right in my crock pot and not dirty up any other dishes. However, if you are in a rush, just skip the browning step altogether.
Take a paper towel and make sure you dry both sides of the pot roast Then season with a little bit of salt and pepper. Once the skillet is nice and hot, add the roast.;Allow the roast to cook for about 2-3 minutes until it is golden brown. The browning of the outside of the meat just adds flavor. Using tongs, flip the meat over and sear the other side of the roast for another 2-3 minutes.
Transfer meat to slow cooker. Sprinkle packets of dry ranch dressing and onion soup mixes over pot roast. Top with a stick of butter. Then place peppers on and around roast.
Note: This butter is a Kerrygold garlic & herb butter. The sticks were on sale at Kroger so I had picked up a bunch. That was the first time I had ever seen the butter in sticks. I absolutely LOVE Kerrygold butter. Irish butter just can’t be beat in terms of flavor. Must be that yummy Irish grass. But a regular ole stick of salted butter will still work perfectly in this. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours. You don’t add any other liquid to this. The meat will create it’s own juices at it cooks. Just cover and let it do its’ thing.
