  • Creamy Gluten Free And Dairy Free Tomato Soup

This Creamy Gluten Free and Dairy Free Tomato Soup is the perfect comfort food for those nights you need a quick meal. Some gluten free crackers or grilled cheese, and youre set!

As a child, my favourite soup was not one that my Mom had spent hours making, using herbs and vegetables that she had grown and harvested in her garden. Recipes passed down from her mother, who learned it from her mother. My favourite soup was tomato soup that came from the red and white tin.

Creamy tomato soup that perfectly paired with crisp salty crackers or a grilled cheese sandwich. Today, however, that red and white tin soup no longer loves me since wheat flour is the thickener used in that ready-in-5-minute soup.

That doesnt mean that I cant enjoy a quick, delicious bowl of soup. This vegan Tomato Soup actually starts with a can of tomatoes. Using whole ingredients, its also ready to eat in about 30 minutes.

In addition to being gluten free, this soup is also dairy free, getting its creaminess from the potato that is added to the mixture while it is cooking. But if you want to make it even creamier, you can add milk of your choice before serving. Coconut milk or cashew milk work great.

If you do not require a dairy-free diet, feel free to add 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream after blending the soup, just dont bring it back up to a boil once the cream has been added or it will curdle.

  • Use a food mill to process tomato mixture, reserving vegetable puree and discarding vegetable skins and seeds. See Using a Food Mill For Tomatoes below.
  • Place vegetable puree back in stockpot, whisk in remaining seasonings, and simmer.
  • Whisk brown rice flour in a small amount of simmered puree, and return to stockpot .

    Homemade Canned Tomato Soup Recipe

Skip the store-bought soup from a tin and make this flavorful Homemade Canned Tomato Soup with a few simple ingredients from the garden.

When I was first diagnosed with celiac disease, one of the things that surprised me the most was that the store-bought cans of cream of soup all contained wheat. Thankfully, at that point, I was already making my own homemade canned tomato soup, so I didnt feel too deprived.

Although I used to make this tomato soup just to be able to enjoy it, now that I need to eat gluten free, I make sure that I have enough tomatoes planted every year so that I can make enough soup to last us a year. It is a necessity now.

This recipe comes from my Mother-in-law, who has been making this recipe for as long as Ive known her. Originally, I found the soup to be too spicy though. Like, beads of sweat on your forehead spicy.

But, that must have been a year for strong onions, strong peppers, and a few more dashes of cayenne, because I dont find it to be too warm anymore. If you dont want your soup to have any spice, feel free to omit the cayenne pepper.

This recipe is truly so easy, and is ready to eat in about five minutes.

To make this gluten free tomato soup, all you have to do is put all of the ingredients into a cooking pot. Mix well, and heat until it boils.

    Then you’re ready to serve.

I sometimes like to have garnishes available to serve with tomato soup. Chopped basil, shredded parmesan cheese, or gluten free croutons are excellent options to take this soup to the next level.

What To Serve With Tomato Soup

The most popular thing to eat with tomato soup is grilled cheese! But my family loves it when I make my Gluten-Free Buttermilk Biscuits or Gluten-Free Sweet Cornbred with the soup. Its so quick and easy to bake biscuits or cornbread to go with the soup.

We also like Schars Gluten-Free Table Crackers with soup. I buy them at Walmart.

Using A Food Mill For Tomatoes

A food mill is a versatile kitchen tool I remember watching both my mother and my grandmother put to good use. They utilized it to make various homemade foods, including applesauce, tomato sauce, and tomato soup.

It consists of three main parts: a bowl, a strainer, and a knob which helps to turn a metal plate against the strainer. It usually comes with strainer discs with holes of different sizes, giving the user the ability to make foods that result in coarse textures or very fine smooth textures.

A food mill helps to smash cooked fruits or vegetables through the strainer while removing the skins and seeds at the same time! It is an ideal tool to create luscious soups, sauces, and purees as well as jams, jellies, preserves, and even fluffy mashed potatoes.

Since this recipe does not ask you to remove the garlic skins or tomato seeds and skins prior to cooking, a food mill is used to easily do the job for you!

So, there is no need to drop 4 pounds of tomatoes into scalding water, then drop them into icy water, then labor over peeling them and scraping out the seeds. Yes!

See? The food mill can be your friend! Plus by processing tomatoes through a food mill, you will produce less food waste that typically results from peeling and removing seeds by hand.

I never really knew this because I grew up in a minimalist kind of family, at least when it came to food, but there is a whole population of people who dont know how to cook anything without a can of some kind of condensed soup. I clearly remember someone joining our local support group and saying that just about everything her mother taught her to cook involved condensed soup. She was so distraught because there were NO condensed gf soups at the time.

A few months ago , I received a sample of this, the first gluten-free condensed tomato soup on the market, from Dei Fratelli.

Corice said its really good! Its been a long time since I had any of Campbells soups, but it somewhat tastes like I sort of remember. In other words, I have no idea. However, it has a great, rich flavor and that smooth sipping goodness that makes you go mmmm.

Upon defrosting, the bread wasbread-like. Woot! Soft and pliable, not dry or crumbly. The Whole Grain White Bread tastes like white bread and holds together really well. All I could get from Carter was a Yum! as he stuffed his face with his grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup.

What Kind Of Tomatoes Work Best In This Soup

    My Devotional Thoughts

For this recipe I use 3 lbs of tomatoes. Sometimes I like to use up the tomatoes I have on hand so I may mix medium sized tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. If you want to do something like that keep in mind that 15 20 cherry tomatoes equals about 1 lb and 3 medium tomatoes also equal 1 lb. So you could use 20 cherry tomatoes and 6 medium tomatoes or some combination that gets you to the 3 lb mark. Or just use a food scale to weight it all so you know you get it right.

Yes, you can use this vegan cream of mushroom soup in a recipe calling for condensed cream of mushroom soup.

However, you should omit the liquid that the recipe calls for. Use the quantity of this finished soup in place of both the condensed soup and water.

As of the most recent test, performed on October 11, 2019:

    • This product was labeled Gluten Free
    • It was certified Gluten Free
    • According to its certification, it should contain less than 20 PPM of gluten

Based on the combined results of all tests, as of October 11, 2019:

    • This product appears to be gluten free at less than 3 PPM of gluten, and in accordance with its labeling.
    • Two Nima Sensor tests have been performed. Both of those tests indicated the product was not gluten free.
    • The third test, using GlutenTox Sticks Plus was performed immediately after the first two. This test indicated the product contained less than 3 PPM of gluten
    • Due to the contradiction between the gluten-found result of the first two tests and the gluten-free result of test #3, a sample was sent off to Bia Diagnostics for ELISA testing. The ELISA result indicated less than 5 PPM of gluten, essentially mirroring the result of test 3.
    • Due to the proven erroneous results of test #1 and #2, those tests have been invalidated. They will still be available on the site for reference, but will be clearly marked as invalid tests. Their results will not be factored into any historical statistics.
    • Indications are that this product contains significantly less than the 20 PPM maximum gluten threshold that its labeling and certification require. It is also well within the FDA’s specifications for gluten-free-labeled food products.

Homemade Condensed “Cream” of Celery Soup ~ Dairy Free, Gluten Free, & Vegetarian

Years ago, I created this simple instant cheater tomato soupbarely a recipe reallythat simply uses tomato or vegetable juice and milk. Its just those two ingredients, and its ready in 2 minutes! Tomato juice or tomato-based vegetable juice and milk. I use full-fat coconut milk or unsweetened almond milk. However, if you consume dairy, its fine to use dairy milk if youd like. This Cheater Tomato Soup recipe makes just enough tomato soup to fill a large bowl, a soup mug, or a large coffee mug. My version requires no salt, herbs, sweetener, or the like, but feel free to add a pinch here, a pinch there, if needed. Cook and stir until it gets really thick.

Once it gets to this stage add your tomato paste and stir well to combine.

Keep in mindthis is a condensed tomato soup for soups or casseroles. This is not a soup to eat as is.
