Brady loves to write out a menu, make copies, and then hand them out to each of us. We then circle the items we would like on our sub sandwiches and he makes them.

I have a feeling he may work at Jimmy Johns or something of the like when he is older.

This Creamy Tomato Basil Soup is packed with flavor and makes the house smell so wonderful as it simmers.

What To Serve With Tomato Soup

Tomato soup is to grilled cheese what peanut butter is to jelly, but you dont have to stop there.

  • You can always go the oyster cracker route.
  • A simple Caesar salad would do the trick.
  • My grandmother used to make tomato soup and serve it to me with cottage cheese and dried minced onions. I eat it this way to this day.
  • Add cheese tortellini to the soup to make it more of a meal.
  • Serve it with a white fish such as cod or tilapia.

Adding Milk To Make It Rich

Canned broth may not taste the best straight out of the tin. Therefore, to spice things up a little and make the broth taste a whole lot better, one can add milk. While you are at it, you can also add a tin of diced tomatoes to make it taste like grandmas homemade soup.

Although the tomato soup by Campbell is yummy by itself, the addition of milk will increase the richness of the entire dish.

It is said that to achieve the perfect creaminess of broth, milk is highly recommended over ingredients such as cream or stock. Also, it helps that milk does not cost much and is readily available in all parts of the world.

For more of an oomph factor, you could add ingredients such as pesto and cheese to enhance the taste of a canned broth heavily. If you serve this to your guests, they will confuse it for homemade soup.

Enjoy a creamy, luxurious tomato basil soup without the guilt! There is no cream, sugar, or any unnecessary additives in my Tomato Basil Soup! Plus, the secret ingredient makes this soup so so good!

What you WONT find in this homemade tomato soup is a bunch of cream or sugar.

I havent been able to get this creamy, luxurious, sweet, and comforting soup out of my mind for weeks. Tomatoes are still hanging around my farmers market, and Im taking advantage! I cant wait to make tons of salads, soups, and other goodies with them before we go into the deep freeze of winter.

If youve been following LSJ since the beginning, you know Ive done a tomato basil bisque in the past. My ashamed self is admitting to you that I had to put cream in it to make it taste as good as it did last time. In my defense, I did make that soup when the tomatoes werent quite at their best. Which meant less natural flavor and that means I needed extra herbs to help make the tomato flavor a little noticeable. But never, ever, ever again.

I cant wait to make a big batch of this every week to have on hand for lunches and midday snacks. Yes, tomato soup is perfect with a little bit of grilled cheese when you need a little something to nibble on. Not to mention that its exactly what you need if youve caught the early fall sniffles.

Why Not Just Make It From Scratch

The answer to this question is difficult because there are many different reasons. One of the main reasons for not making it from scratch is that it takes time and effort, so if you do make it from scratch it will be a lot more expensive. In addition, the ingredients to make something from scratch are not always readily available and can even take some time searching for them. If you have all the ingredients, it may still be more expensive than buying something that is already made.

How To Dress Up A Can Of Tomato Soup

Condensed soup doesnt have to be boring! Easily dress up a can of tomato soup with ingredients you have in your pantry.

Today, Im presenting you with a recipe that was truly born out of my college-student status . As with many American children, I have been eating grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup since I could handle solid food. Its convenient, easy, filling, and delicious.

But sometimes, it can be a bit boring. Lets face it, its simply a can of tomato puree and milk or water, depending on your preference. After a year of to-go Campbells cups of soup, I decided that I could no longer consume this boring tomato stuff as is, so I gave it a serious makeover.

Start by combining one can of tomato soup with a can full of milk, as you usually would. Were not using water here. I usually use 1% milk, but if you arent calorie conscious and have it on hand, of course it would be even better with half and half or heavy cream.

Now heres the fun part: add garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust. Let simmer for 10 minutes or so to release all that flavor.

Pour into bowls and top with a little bit of parmesan cheese and some fresh basil. Ta da! You are no longer eating boring old tomato soup.

If youre really feeling adventurous, make some homemade sandwich bread for your grilled cheeses. I used such bread for the sandwiches in these pictures.

Can You Freeze This Tomato Soup Recipe

This recipe makes a whole big pot of soup so if youre not going to use all of it you can freeze it for another meal!

The best way to freeze any sup with dairy is to leave the dairy product out of the last step. If youre using heavy cream the soup will freeze fine but milk is better when added fresh to the recipe.

Once you defrost your soup just heat in a pot until warm, stir in the whole milk and serve!

This soup recipe can be on the table in less than 30, so you can make it ahead of time or make it right before you need dinner! This isnt one of those recipes that gets better as it sits so if you need dinner ASAP, this is the soup for you!
