I have to admit that sometimes we include mushrooms to make this wonderful hamburger steak smothered in this rich, savory, flavorful gravy.

You can easily make hamburger steak with mushroom gravy with or without onions. No matter how you do it you will not be disappointed.

I can almost guarantee it.

All mushrooms will work and work well. Just adjust your cooking times accordingly.

Creamy French Onion Style Slow Cooker Mushrooms

I am so happy to be back this month with a new crock pot recipe and am pretty much in love with how GOOD these mushrooms are. Seriously. Straight up drink the sauce delicious.

True story when Mr. Claire and I met many years ago he hated mushrooms. I have mentioned this before over on my blog, A Little CLAIREification and, in a nutshell, he had pretty much decided at some point in his formative years that they were just not something he liked at all.

Needless to say, this was sort of a bummer to me since I adore mushrooms. Thank God he loved cheese as much as I do but I wasnt ready to give up hope!

Fortunately, after encouraging him to try all sorts of recipes over the years, he finally saw the light and he is now a full on mushroom loving fool. Talk about a complete 180* turn.

When I mentioned that I wanted to make a slow cooker mushroom side dish there was zero hesitation as he immediately said make a twist on on our Favorite French Onion Soup using a packet of onion soup mix. Whaaa? Who IS this man?? If we werent already hitched Id marry him again.

And thus these French Onion Style Slow Cooker Mushrooms were born and oh. my. word. They turned out so great.

Mushrooms actually have a lot of moisture so most chefs will tell you NOT to wash them but rather to use a small kitchen brush to clean them up a little before cooking which is what we did.

I doubled the recipe just to be sure Mr. Claire would get a few.

Creamy Chicken And Mushroom Soup

Yield:6 servings

total time:30 minutes

So cozy, so comforting and just so creamy. Best of all, this is made in 30 min from start to finish so quick and easy!

  • 8 ounces boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch chunks
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

How To Make Meatloaf With Onion Soup Mix

First, add the eggs to a large mixing bowl, and beat the eggs slightly.

This step ensures the eggs are beaten and prevents you from having to over mix the meat. Then, add the a half cup ketchup and the remaining ingredients to the mixing bowl.

Next, mix the ingredients together, including 1 quarter cup water or broth. My mom always let me help with this part, and my kids get this job today.

Using your hands is the best way to mix the meatloaf mixture!

Slow Cooker Swiss Steak And Onion Recipe

French Onion &  Mushroom Soup

Add the onion to the slow cooker. Now, add the chicken drumsticks and sprinkle the French onion soup mix over the top. Next, add the Worcestershire Sauce, chicken stock, and diced tomatoes. Cook on low for 6 hours. Gently remove the chicken from the slow cooker. Mix the cornstarch with the water until it is a thick paste.

In a large bowl add the ground beef, crushed crackers, egg, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder and oregano. Mix together with clean hands, dont over mix. Form the meat into 4 patties. Set aside. In another large bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, gravy packets, water and thyme until smooth. Set aside.

Add into the slow cooker the onions, then the steak. Sprinkle half the onion soup mix over both sides of the steak. In a jug combine the remaining soup, stock, gravy powder, salt and pepper and sauce. Pour over the steak and onions. Then top steak with butter and tomatoes. Cook on high for 1 hour, then turn to low for 4 hours.

Instructions: In some parts of the country, blade steak is called chicken steak.. Heat a heavy skillet or saute pan over medium heat. Add 1 tbs of the oil. Add the mushrooms cover and cook for 5 minutes. Remove cover and continue cooking until mushrooms begin to brown. Remove from pan and place in the slow cooker. Return the pan to the heat.

Can You Make This Recipe Ahead Of Time How Do You Store It

If you want to make this vegetarian French Onion Soup ahead of time, I recommend cooking the soup up until the point that you toast the bread.

Store the cooked French Onion Soup in an airtight container and refrigerate it for up to four days

Once youre ready, divide the soup into crocks and toast the bread and melt the cheese immediately before serving.

What You Need To Make Slow Cooker Smothered Pork Chops

HOW TO MAKE SLOW COOKER SMOTHERED PORK CHOPS

Spray slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray. Place pork chops in cooker season with salt and pepper if you like. In a large bowl, mix condensed soups, onion soup mix, mushrooms and water. Mix well. Pour mixture over pork chops. Cook on high for 4 to 5 hours or on low for 7 to 8 hours.

*Be sure to watch out for bones when using bone-in pork chops. Make sure the pork chops reach a safe minimum internal temperature of 145 degree F. with a 3 minute resting time. Each slow cooker cooks at different rates, adjust cooking times according to your cooker.

Serve with mashed potatoes, rice or noodles, your favorite veggies and a salad.

Make Ahead And Storage Instructions

French Onion/Wild Mushroom Soup Recipe

The base soup, without the baguette and cheese, can be prepared ahead of time and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days. Simply prepare the soup as directed, but dont top it with bread or cheese.

If youre not going to serve the soup within five days, you can portion it into zip top freezer storage bags or a freezer-safe food container and freeze for up to three months.

When youre ready to eat, use either the stovetop or microwave to thaw and reheat the soup. Then, portion the soup into oven-safe bowls, top with the bread and cheese, and place them under the broiler to melt the cheese just before serving.

Instant Pot French Onion Pot Roast

Let me tell you guys Im not a huge meat eater. This Instant Pot French Onion Pot Roast is simply amazing! Tender Juicy Beef smothered in French Onions all done in the Instant Pot! Tastes like it cooked all day in a dutch oven but it was a Quick Instant Pot Pot Roast that everyone will love any day of the week.

There is nothing like an instant pot, pot roast. Done to perfection with tender meat that shreds with the touch of your fork and still full of French Onion flavor. I served mine over mashed potatoes let me tell you it was to die for.

Ingredients For The Japanese Onion Soup With Mushrooms

I like to use white soft tender onions for this Japanese onion soup.

So, instead of using one large onion I tend to use 3 smaller tender young onions because the flavor tends to be more delicate.

Then, of course, spring onions are another major player in this Japanese onion soup.

Again, spring onions have soft bulbs as well.

For the mushrooms, I always use shiitake mushrooms because of the flavor they give to the soup.

Button mushrooms dont have the same effect.

You can use button mushrooms in this clear soup, but it wont be completely the same experience.

Besides I use dehydrated shiitake mushrooms because they can be stored for a longer period of time and because I get it form a Japanese traveler from Osaka who sells, every year again, a load full during December.

Those dried shiitake mushrooms are gold worth and enhance a soup or meal immensely!

If you plan on using dried shiitake mushrooms in this soup instead of fresh ones, then you can do the following:

  • Rinse your mushroom and place into a bowl with 300 milliliter Water .
  • Let the mushrooms soak for at least 30 minutes.
  • Take out the mushrooms and just pass them through clean water. Cut the mushrooms small.
  • Reserve the mushroom water because you can use that + 300 ml instead of the 600 ml of water in the recipe. The mushroom water adds a deep flavor to the soup which you wouldnt want to miss!
  • Besides that, you will also need a clear broth.

    How To Make Gravy For Pot Roast

    You can remove the meat and vegetables and pour the leftover juices through a strainer and use it as a sauce to pour over the meat and vegetable mixture. This is how I usually do it because its quick and easy.

    Gravy Tip: If you prefer a thicker gravy consistency for your Lipton Onion Soup Pot Roast, strain the juices and then place them in a sauce pan or frying pan. Add 2 Tbsp of cornstarch to 1/2 cup of water. Pour the cornstarch mixture into the pan with the juices and bring to a low boil. Stir until mixture thickens up. If it gets too thick add in a little water to thin.

    • Chop: chop up your beef into bite sized chunks.

    This Japanese onion and mushrooms soup is a delicious vegetarian & vegan meal starter that will warm your soul. Best of all, it is low in calories and wholesome.

    An onion and mushroom soup is often served in Japanese steakhouses as a meal starter. It is light with a clear broth, yet has complex flavors. It is also low in calories and cholesterol.

    The recipe I enjoy making uses either vegetable broth or chicken broth as the base. You can make it with a bone broth for added vitamins, minerals, and collagen.

    While not strictly traditional, I think adding a little miso during the last 3 minutes of simmering gives this soup more flavor and some beneficial probiotics.

    Any mushroom will work in this recipe. Shitake and Maitake are stronger in flavor. Crimini mushrooms work just fine with a milder flavor, making the onions more of the star of the dish.

    This recipe is for 4 people. It takes approximately 40 minutes to prepare.

    Sorry, I know. Another mushroom recipe. Mushrooms are my favorite kind of vegetables and this is my sad attempt at eating clean for the new year of 2015.

    Yes, eating clean as I slurp this amazingly cozy soup in 82 degree weather here in Southern California. And then dunking in some crusty garlic bread. You cant forget that.

    But then again, I did swap out the heavy cream for half and half. At least thats something, right? Plus, theres carrots and celery too. So yeah, definitely clean eating happening here as I drown myself in this epic creaminess.

    This isnt your average bowl of French onion soup. Not that French onion soup could ever be average, its always delicious, but this bowl is a step up. It took me a while to get this one figured out, but once I did, I knew it was special. Its funny, my process for developing recipes can be all over the place. Sometimes I have a solid idea in my head. One that already really excites me and I dont think twice about creating the recipe.

    Other times I have an idea that I like, but dont love. Often times its these recipes that take me a little longer to get just right. That was kind of the case with this French onion soup. I wanted to make a French onion soup with mushrooms and lots of herbs. Of course, that would have been delicious, but I needed something to really make me excited.
