We love creamy-based soup. They keep you full and satisfied especially if they are packed with veggies and protein. This creamy chicken noodle soup recipe is easy to make and perfect for the whole family. Made with almond milk, flour, chicken breast, herbs, noodles, and loads of veggies. The perfect way to add those veggies into your diet, especially if you are serving the kids. This creamy chicken soup is so flavorful and can work as a side dish or a main meal for a light dinner option. Swap up the veggies with whatever veggies you liked and use any noodles of choice.

What Can I Add To Soup For More Flavor

Our recipe sticks to classic ingredients and flavors, but that doesnt mean there arent things you can add to make it your own:

For a creamy chicken noodle soup, add 2 to 4 tablespoons of heavy cream, half-and-half or whole milk.

Add three to four lemon slices for a lemon chicken soup similar to this Lemony Chicken and Vegetable Soup.

Add three or four slices of lime, swap the parsley for fresh cilantro, and then add diced tomatoes and cubed avocado for Mexican-style chicken soup. You can even add diced corn tortillas as we do for this tortilla chicken soup.

Add a teaspoon of toasted sesame oil and a few dashes of fish sauce for an ultra-satisfying, umami-packed soup.

Swirl in fresh spinach or kale at the end of cooking for more of a vegetable-heavy soup.

Since our recipe uses a store bought stock, to save on time, its really important that the stock is a high quality stock with great flavor. It serves as the backbone of the overall soup!

As we mentioned above, you can definitely use a homemade stock if thats your preference! Its definitely the route we take if we happen to have some in the fridge or freezer.

The Soup For Chicken Noodle Soup

The soup should have a bit of fat and as for the breast bone, dont worry about getting every ounce of meat off, you want a bit of meat to help develop flavor for the stock.

Add all the bones, along with the dry herbs and peppercorns to a medium soup pot. Split one carrot length wise, and cut 1 celery rib into 3 large pieces, then add those all to the pot. Crush the 6 cloves of garlic with the flat side of a chef knife and add those to the pot as well, theres no need to peel the garlic.

Now add 4 cups of chicken broth. Most recipes would add water, but we are going to double down on the chicken flavor for this chicken noodle soup. Add 2 tsp of both your Soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, then the 3 drops of Fish Sauce.

Can I Use A Whole Chicken

I have not tried making this as an Instant Pot whole chicken noodle soup yet, but I suspect that it would be delicious and if you decide to try, Id love to hear how it goes!

  • Mirepoix. The trinity of chicken noodle soup goodness! Onions, carrots, and celery are always a delicious trio, and they bring Vitamin-A, Vitamin-C, and antioxidants to the soup.
  • Seasonings. A combination of pepper, salt, dried oregano, fresh thyme, and bayleaf is how you add flavor to chicken noodle soup. Make sure you use fresh thyme here .
  • Chicken Broth. The liquid base for our soup.

Lets Start With The Chicken

I use rotisserie chicken for several reasons. I live in the south, and if I can avoid turning on the oven to roast a whole bird, I feel like thats a win. Also, the cost of a whole raw chicken and a rotisserie chicken is about the same, so why not let the store cover the energy costs of cooking? Plus there is less mess for me to clean up!

First, I remove the skin of the chicken. If I dont, the skin will produce a lot of fat that I dont want in my soup. Next, I separate the wings, thighs, and drum sticks. I keep the drum sticks as a late-night snack. Then, I cut away the breasts from the breast bone and cut, pry, or wrastle the bones from the thighs. Make sure you remove any fatty bits or unpleasant membrane you dont want to find in your soup. Its ok if a little skin makes it in I usually leave the skin on the wings.

  • Sauté the veggies. Add oil to a large Dutch oven or a large stock pot over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot add the onions and give them a few minutes head start before adding the celery, carrots, and ginger slices. Cook them for a few minutes before you add the garlic, along with bay leaves, turmeric, adobo, all-purpose herb seasoning, and thyme. Allow the herbs and spices to bloom in the oil before adding the chicken broth.
  • Simmer.Simmer the soup until it just starts to boil. Then add the egg noodles and allow them to cook in the broth. This will help thicken your soup a bit. When the noodles are almost done, stir in the chicken and heat it through. Add more broth or a splash of water if the soup is getting too thick.
  • Finish and serve. Turn the heat off. Fish out and discard the bay leaves Stir in the lemon zest, a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice, and fresh parsley. Taste and adjust with more salt and pepper to your taste.

    I love a good shortcut and rotisserie chicken is the secret shortcut to this soup recipe. Buy a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store, pull the chicken off, and use it for this soup. You could also cook chicken in the Instant Pot or slow cooker to use for soup or use leftover chicken.

    This soup is also great with leftover turkey. We always make a pot of this soup after Thanksgiving when we have too much turkey in our fridge.

    Chicken Noodle Soup With Egg Noodles And Sour Cream

    Chicken Broth – You will need 2 cartons of chicken broth for this recipe. I prefer to use the full-salt chicken broth as it adds the best flavor to the soup, but you can also use one full-salt + one low-sodium. If you use both cartons of low-sodium chicken broth you will probably need to add some additional for the best flavor, if wanted.

    Cream of Celery – I don’t use the canned creamed soups a lot in my recipes but this one I do! It really is so delicious and a great way to get that creamy flavor. Plus, celery is usually found in chicken noodle soup but I have never cared for the chunks of celery in my soup, which is why I have found using the creamed celery soup is the best way.

    Carrots – You need one cup for this recipe and the easiest way to get it is to use baby carrots! They are already peeled and the ends cleaned so all you have to do is slice them.

    Onion – I prefer to use a white onion for this soup.

    Chicken – The chicken needs to be cooked before adding it into the soup. Use a rotisserie chicken, leftover shredded chicken, or cook some in the slow cooker or instant pot during the day and then it’s ready to use at dinner.

    Sour Cream – This provides a rich, creamy texture to the soup. If you’re not a fan of sour cream feel free to use some heavy cream instead.

    Pepper, Poultry Seasoning, Dried Parsley – This is the combination of seasonings that I love in chicken noodle soup. But feel free to add or substitute with ones you prefer.

    In a large Dutch oven, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook until golden brown on both sides.
