Campbells Green Bean Casserole

Hamburger Soup, All Ingredients of a Hamburger in a Soup

The green bean casserole is a classic for a reason. This family favorite is easy to pull together and can feed a lot of hungry mouths.

In this recipe, Campbells cream of mushroom soup is poured over tender green beans and topped with crispy onions for extra crunch.

Its creamy, tasty, and its easily converted into a vegetarian main meal with a simple side salad or steamed rice.

Dinty Moore Beef Stew

You very well could have grown up eating Dinty Moore soups. Their cans are recognizable and their soups created many fond memories over the last 80-plus years. Unfortunately, Dinty Moore Beef Stew is no longer what it used to be even five or ten years ago.

The problem will hit you right between the eyes once you open up the can. Dinty Moore Beef Stew went from being one of the beefiest stews around to being almost devoid of beef. Remember those big chunks of beef from your childhood? Well, those chunks have been replaced by smaller, less flavorful flecks of meat.

Additionally, Dinty Moore Beef Stew used to have an equal amount of potatoes and carrots. But these days, the quantity of potatoes far outnumber the carrots. To make matters worse, the potatoes don’t have as pleasant of a texture as they used to and the carrots you do find will underwhelm.

Bar Harbor Clam Chowder

If you have a love affair with New England style clam chowder, particularly clam chowder like they make it in Maine, you will absolutely adore this soup. Bar Harbor Clam Chowder tastes so good that you’ll think you’re at an expensive restaurant.

Bar Harbor is a company based in Maine, so there’s a good reason why this clam chowder is so authentic. It tastes homemade and it’s perfect for eating by itself or adding it to your favorite seafood recipe. There are potatoes in this soup but not an overwhelming amount that ruins the taste.

It should be noted, however, that Bar Harbor Clam Chowder isn’t chunky. It has a ton of flavor but you aren’t going to find chunks of clam or lobster. If that’s how you like your chowder, you’ll either have to look elsewhere or take the extra step of adding in your own seafood.

Do Canned Soups Have A Ton Of Sodium

Canned soup has gotten a bad rap over the years, namely for its high sodium content. But there were reasons for all that salt initially, the first being preservation. Canned foods are better preserved in a salty or sweet medium. However, vacuum packing has eliminated the need for sodium as the sole mineral to inhibit bacterial growth. explains Stoler. The second reason is to please the typical Americans palate, which tends to prefer saltier foods.

But the most interesting tidbit of all? Despite Americans concerns over high-sodium soups, food companies had significant trouble getting low-sodium soups off the shelves. An industry secret is that most larger companies have reduced their sodium content over the years without notifying consumers, says Stoler. When canned soups were labeled as low or no sodium, they didnt sell well because consumers assumed the taste would be compromised.

Nowadays, there are tons of low-sodium soups on the market, many of them legitimately delicious. But if youre worried that a low-sodium soup will have less flavor, remember that you can always add your own ingredients to prepare it more to your liking. The truth is, if someone wants more salt, they can always add it. If a soup is too salty, add more water. Its really that simple, says Stoler.

Here are 14 healthy canned soups to look for the next time youre grocery shopping.

Andy Warhol Loved Campbell’s Soup More Than You Think

Andy Warhol’s famous Campbell’s Soup Cans art installation is the very definition of pop art. There are 32 canvases, each depicting a different kind of Campbell’s soup, and Mental Floss says Warhol did, indeed, love the stuff. He was quoted as saying, “I used to drink it. I used to have the same lunch every day, for 20 years, I guess, the same thing over and over.”

No wonder he was so familiar with those cans! They ultimately launched his entire career, and if you look closely at them you’ll see they’re not all 100 percent identical, in spite of Warhol’s attempt to mimic a machine-stamped look.

Campbell’s approved of the pieces, too, even issuing a paper Souper Dress inspired by the work.

Campbell’s Chunky Classic Chicken Noodle Soup

Naturally, Classic Chicken Noodle is one of my favorites. It’s been there to nurse me through sick days since pre-kindergarten. It’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

What makes this can differ from the chicken noodle soup I’m used to is the texture. Since this is from the Chunky soup line, it does have large chunks of chicken.

18 grams of protein, the ingredient list on the product label for this soup includes:

Chicken Stock, White Meat Chicken, Carrots, Enriched Egg Noodles , Celery, Contains Less Than 2% Of: Water, Modified Cornstarch, Salt, Chicken Fat, Yeast Extract, Potassium Chloride, Soy Protein Concentrate, Sugar, Dried Chicken, Dried Onions, Sodium Phosphate, Flavoring, Spice, Vegetable Broth, Cooked Chicken Skins, Beta Carotene For Color, Disodium Inosinate, Disodium Guanylate, Egg Yolks, Soy Lecithin. Contains: Egg, Wheat, Soy.

It’s got a bit more preservatives than Granny’s soup, but I’ll take it!

‘three Clear Paths To Generate Back Growth’ In Snacks

To accelerate growth in Campbells snacking business, Oswalt said the company will follow three clear paths to generate back growth, including leveraging its proven growth model, grounding innovations in consumer insights and expanding distribution across channels.

Oswalt touted the strong foundation from which Campbell will grow its snack business, noting that all of its snack brands are in the two fastest growing segments: permissible indulgence and true indulgence.

Permissible indulgence represents about $32b of snacking, which is about a quarter of total snacking, and it is growing at a two-year compound annual growth rate of 4%. These are the snacks that consumers feel are more permissible because they offer something without guilt or have added benefits, Oswalt said. Brands playing in this space include Late July, Goldfish, Lance, Snyders and Snack Factorys Pretzel Chips.

The true indulgence category, which includes Campbells Kettle Brand and Cape Cod chips and Pepperidge Farms cookies, is growing even fast at 10% and represents about 30% of the snacking category at about $40b.

From this position of strength, Campbells plans to further grow these brands by elevating their positioning, investing in marketing, expanding new consumers and geographies and innovating to strengthen equity a proven growth model that Oswalt said helped Campbell grow Kettle Brand 11% in two years, and gain 1.7 points of share in two years.

Additional Price Increases Set For January

Many of the pressures that dragged down sales and squeezed margins in the first quarter have continued in the second quarter, but Clouse said he is optimistic about the second half of the year noting the companys progress offsetting inflation through pricing and other mitigation strategies, and alleviating supply chain pressures.

Inflation and other factors negatively impacted Campbell to the tune of 470 basis points in the quarter, the majority of which was driven by cost increases as overall input prices on a rate basis increased approximately 6%, CFO Mick Beekhuizen told analysts.

He explained inflation hit Campbell hardest across ingredients, packaging, labor, warehousing and logistics, but the company was able to cushion the blow with previously announced price increases that went into effect in the prior quarter.

Another round of increases is slated to go into effect next month and will be evident on the shelf by the third quarter, Clouse said.

Amy’s Organic Lentil Soup

Lentil soup is something you may believe can only be tasty if you make it from scratch in your own kitchen. While there are a lot of terrible lentil soups on the market that try too hard and add too many unneeded flavors, Amy’s Organic Lentil Soup is an option that you can go to that is consistently above average. There are better soups available, but this stuff is perfect for a cold day when you just want to stay inside and relax while a hot bowl of soup gently warms you up.

In addition to lentils, Amy’s Organic Lentil Soup has celery, onions, carrots, and potatoes. All those ingredients are organic and the soup is free of gluten, soy, and lactose. If you eat a vegan or plant-based diet, this soup should be in your cupboard.

If you’re looking for a spicy soup, you’ve come to the wrong can. Though there are a lot of seasonings at play, they add to the depth of the overall flavor of the soup and not to any sort of spiciness.

Campbells Chunky Soup: Fajita Chicken with Rice & Beans Review

1869

The origins of the Campbell Soup Company lie in 19th Century America, when fruit merchant, Joseph A Campbell partnered up with icebox manufacturer Abraham Anderson to form the Joseph A Campbell Preserve Company. For over 20 years, the company supplied high quality canned tomatoes and vegetables, soups, jellies, condiments and minced meats. However, this all changed in 1897 when the companys manager, Arthur Dorrance, reluctantly hired his nephew to join the team.

1895The first can of ready-to-eat soup, Beefsteak Tomato, is introduced. New Jersey Beefsteak tomatoes was Campbells key product for many years, and was a natural choice for the first soup flavour.

1897

As it happened, the arrival of Dr John T. Dorrence a chemist was to change the history of Campbells forever. By eliminating water in canned soup, Dorrence invented Campbells famous condensed variety. This resulted in lower packaging, shipping and storage costs and made it possible for people to buy a 290g can of soup for just a dime!

1898

The original labels for Campbells condensed tomato soup line were actually orange and blue, but this all changed in 1898 when the companys treasurer, Herberton L. Williams, thought a red and white scheme would be more fitting. Its believed his idea was inspired by the striking image of Cornell football teams red and white uniform.

1898 1900

Did you know? The classic Campbells Condensed Soup script is thought to be founder, Joseph Campbells, own signature.

Heinz Cream Of Tomato Soup

Heinz has been making ketchup since 1876 and their ketchup is by far the most popular ketchup in America. With over 140 years of experience, we know that this company knows their way around a tomato. For that reason, its no surprise that Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup is really good, and criminally underrated.

When it comes to tomato soup, you probably dont think about Heinz but that should change. While this is different from tomato soup youre accustomed to, its wildly popular in Europe specifically in the United Kingdom. Give it a try and you may never switch back to traditional American tomato soup again. Comparatively, this soup by Heinz has a truer and richer tomato flavor.

Finding Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup in the United States can actually be a chore. However, youll find it very much worth the effort and eventually Heinz wont just be your go-to company for ketchup. You will turn to Heinz for tomato soup, too.

The Campbell’s Kids Don’t Look Their Age

It’s not just the Campbell’s can that’s an iconic part of their branding, there are the Campbell’s Soup Kids, too. You’ve seen them in countless ads, and they don’t look their age at all.

For National Soup Month in 2014, Washington University in St. Louis looked at the history of the cherubic little tots. They were “born” in 1904, and they were drawn by children’s book illustrator Grace Wiederseim. It was her husband, Theodore, who actually worked in Campbell’s advertising department, and when she added the kids to one of his layouts, Campbell’s loved it. It wasn’t long before the kids were being featured in all Campbell’s ads, but we don’t know too much about Grace herself. That’s partially because she and Theodore divorced in 1911 and she changed her name, but we do know that she helped make Campbell’s artwork iconic.
