Its true the weather is getting colder and the days are getting shorter! Its time for me to bust out one of my most comforting and flavorful meals that we eat all through the cold months. I say this because I have a hard time wanting to use any of my cooking appliances in the summer, and the winter gives me a good reason to keep my oven on a couple extra hours, keeping my kitchen nice and toasty. Today I want to share the most amazing beef stroganoff recipe you will ever make!
When I was a kid, my mom used to make beef stroganoff using ground beef and Lipton Onion soup mixbut I wasnt a huge fan. You see, I am not a huge fan of ground beef to begin with, and the onions were crunchy because they were only being cooked for a couple minutes. This was a quick dinner recipe. As I became a mom, I started thinking of new recipes I could make and while I loved the flavor of my moms beed stroganoff recipe, I knew there was a way I could make it more my style.
So, I combined the delicious flavor of beef stroganoff with tender pieces of beef and some sour cream and you have a winner!
Now, this beef stroganoff recipe can be made a couple different ways depending on if you have the time to cook it in the oven or if you want to make slow cooker beef stroganoff or pressure cooker beef stroganoffits all possible!
The advantage to cooking it in the oven is that you only use one pan for all of it, except for the rice and sides.
This is like beef tips and rice on steroids.

What Cut Of Meat To Use
You have a few different options for the cut of beef to use for beef stroganoff.
- Round Steak. This is the cut I chose to use for this recipe. Its not the most tender, but it is the most affordable.
- Sirloin Steak. This cut is slightly more tender, but a tad more expensive.
- Ribeye Steak. Ribeye steak is the most expensive of the three but also the most tender. If you want to splurge, feel free. However, I like to think of beef stroganoff as a quick, affordable comfort food which is why I tend to stay away from the more expensive cuts of meat.
I grew up eating stroganoff with round steak, so the slightly chewier/tougher texture doesnt bother me. If you want to spend more money on a nicer cut, go for it! The choice is yours.

How To Make Beef Stroganoff With Cream Of Mushroom Soup
Directions. Sauté for a few minutes, until the onion is tender. Sprinkle with 1 teaspoon flour. Put the steak back into the pan with the onion and mushrooms. Add the cream of mushroom soup and beef broth. Cook over low heat for about 30 minutes, covered. Adjust seasoning to taste, adding salt and pepper, as needed.

The stroganoff sauce is made of homemade mushroom soup. Using fresh mushrooms, milk (vegan option is available and a thickener like arrowroot or cornstarch. Once the mushroom sauce is made, the beef stroganoff is ready to incorporate the soup into a meal. Adding yogurt or sour cream is traditional either mixed in the soup or dolloped on top of the dish.

|1 1/2 lbs boneless beef cubes|
|1/2 cup yellow onion|
|10 ounces cream of mushroom soup|
|8 ounces beef and onion soup mix|
|9 ounces canned mushrooms|
|16 ounces broad egg noodles|
|4 ounces cream cheese|
|1/2 cup sour cream|
- cook the noodles according to pkg directions in seperate pot. *drain and add at the end of recipie.
- in slow cooker mix envelope of beefy onion with the cream of mushroom soup. Add jared mushrooms, paprika, pepper, garlic powder cubed beef and onions.
- cover and cook 3-3 1/2 hours on high or 6-7 hours on low.
- In the last 30 minutes of cook time add into the mixture the cream cheese.
- In the last 10 minutes add the sour cream.
- Put the finished stroganoff over the noodles and ENJOY!

How To Make Easy Beef Stroganoff With Cream Of Mushroom Soup And Ground Beef
Making this dinner recipe is actually easy. All you need is a skillet pan with high sides and a pot to boil the egg noodles in.
Start Water Boiling For Pasta : I like to put my pot of water onto the stove top before I start browning the ground beef. This way, by the time the time the ground beef mixture is cooked and simmering, its time to add the noodles into the boiling water. This way its all done at the same time.
Cook Ground Beef : Brown and crumble the ground beef, onion, and seasonings until beef is no longer pink. Drain the excess grease/liquid from the pan.
Add Stroganoff Ingredients : Add the brown gravy mixed with water, sour cream, and cream of mushroom soup into the cooked ground beef. Stir and let it come to a low boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-low and let it simmer for 10 minutes while the egg noodles cook.
Cook Egg Noodles : Once the meat is simmering throw the egg noodles into the boiling water and cook according to package instructions. Drain the noodles but do not rinse them.
Combine : Add cooked egg noodles and dried parsley into the creamy stroganoff mixture and stir it up. Its ready to serve!

Beef stroganoff. Definitely a comfort food dish. For me, its up on the list near fried chicken and okra. I love the humble roots of stroganoff. It isnt pretentious, it uses simple ingredients and it is a cheap dish that can easily feed your entire family. Just some ground beef, seasonings, an easy gravy mix and boom dinner is served!
How To Make Ground Beef Stroganoff Casserole
To make this ground beef stroganoff casserole, start by browning the two pounds of ground beef. When the ground beef is almost fully cooked, add diced onions and the onion seasoning packet. Then cook until the ground beef is fully cooked.
Simultaneously cook the wide egg noodles. Cook the noodles 2 minutes less than the package instructions for your noodles. Mix the soup, sour cream, and milk into the drained noodles.
Stir the beef and onion mixture into the creamy noodles. Stir to just combined before transferring into a lasagna pan or 13X9 baking dish.
Pour the beef and noodles into the greased baking dish. Then top off with french fried onions before baking.

It is quick and simple to make this dish in the comfort of your own kitchen. The secret to a tender dish is in the cut and quality of the beef. While tenderloin is the best that you can use, beef sirloin is recommended for budget reasons. Using tough cuts of meat will increase the cooking time and can produce a different outcome.
Start by combining the sliced beef with salt and pepper. Let the meat absorb the flavors of the seasoning for around 10 minutes, and then add flour.
The beef needs to be prepared by pan-frying. Melt butter in a pan and add a bit of oil. You can use canola or olive oil. Adding oil increases the smoke point of the butter. This prevents it from getting burnt quickly. Cook the beef until it turns light brown. Remove it from the pan afterwards and put in a clean plate.
Continue cooking using the remaining butter and oil. You can add more butter if needed. Saute the onion until it gets soft and add mushrooms. Put the beef back into the pan. This cooks for around 1 to 2 minutes.

The secret to this beef stroganoff is the browning of the meat. We use London Broil for ours. You can use cubed stew meat or eye of round. There are many cuts that would work for this since meat will be cooked long enough to be tender. I like to choose a lean cut of meat and trim off the excess fat and silver skin.
We have even made this with our Elk meat from my kill last year and its amazing! Elk is so lean, it makes amazing tender little pieces of meat.
Now, back to the browning of the meat. It is the base of this beef stroganoff recipe. You want to start my cooking your cubed steak in a screaming hot pan. I use my enamel dutch oven which is large enough to make the entire recipe and I can throw it in the oven to finish cooking.
Once your pan is screaming hot you want to add your meat. The key is to get a nice brown on the meat, while getting those yummy bits and browning on the pan sides and bottoms. This will be key when adding the liquid to the pot.
Once your meat is browned, you will add the canned soups and Lipton Onion soup mix. You will also add water to each can and add that to the pan. Stir and mix, while scraping up the browned bits in the pan. This will give the beef stroganoff so much flavor!

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff With French Onion Soup Ingredients
This recipe is not the traditional version. Instead of using a sour cream sauce, it uses a combination of soups. You will need golden mushroom soup, condensed beefy mushroom soup, and a can of French onion soup. Together, these soups make for a fantastic beefy, earthy flavor that pairs very well with the wide egg noodles.
You will also need beef stew meat. This type of meat is great at absorbing the flavors of the sauce it cooks in and is very tender in the end. We want our stroganoff to be as amazing as possible. That is why a crockpot is a better option than an oven.
Cooking stroganoff on the stove means we need to watch it constantly, ensuring the noodles stay separate and the beef doesnt get too dry. The crockpot allows you to cook the beef in the juices for hours at a time. That means no watching, no waiting, no keeping your fingers crossed that the beef stays tender.

- Salt the pasta water really well! This is your one chance to season the noodles themselves and add flavor to your stroganoff, so dont be shy.
- Boil the noodles according to the package instructions for al dente pasta. Dont cook them for too long, since they will continue to bake in the oven and you dont want to end up with mushy noodles.
- Start with room temperature sour cream. Cold sour cream will not blend as easily into the sauce. Also, when you put cold sour cream in a hot oven, it may break, resulting in an undesirable texture. Finally, I recommend using full-fat sour cream, which is less likely to curdle when heated.

What Is The Best Meat For Stroganoff
There are a few variations of Beef Stroganoff such as Beef Stroganoff with Meatballs and Beef Stroganoff with ground beef but the most common type of Beef Stroganoff is Beef Stroganoff with thinly sliced beef. When someone refers to Beef Stroganoff, they are referring to the latter and that is what we are making today.
- Top Sirloin: I like to use top sirloin for Crock Pot Beef Storganoff because it is still economical but more tender than flank steak or other such cuts. It transforms into melt-in-your-mouth-tender when cooked in the slow cooker.
- Rib Eye: You are also welcome to use more expensive rib eye as well. You can also use tougher cuts such as chuck roast or stew meat, just be aware you will likely have to cook your Crockpot Beef Storganoff for longer in order to tenderize the beef.
- Ground Beef: You can also use lean ground beef but make sure to cook it before you add it to the crockpot and drain off the grease otherwise your stroganoff will be excessively greasy.
To thinly slice your top sirloin or rib eye, place it in the freezer for 30-60 minutes to firm up a bit. This allows you to slice the beef without it squirming beneath your knife. The beef will defrost quickly once you start slicing, so dont worry about it being frozen.
