Gluten Free Dairy Free Cream of Chicken Soup

YES! Regular canned condensed cream of chicken soup has cream and butter and wheat flour . Those are the easy ingredients to understand! Theres also modified food starch which could contain gluten, and whey, which is most likely dairy based.

Plus, regular canned cream of chicken soup falls into the category of foods that I believe people should avoid simple because it has several ingredients that are highly processed and are hard to understand.

What Is The Best Type Of Gluten

My favorite brands of gluten-free pasta are Barilla gluten-free and Jovial. My favorite type of gluten-free pasta to use to make chicken noodle soup is rotini. I like how the noddle shape holds up in the soup.

How Do You Make Gluten Free Cream Of Chicken Soup

Gluten Free Cafe Soup Chicken Noodle

First, saute your chicken in the oil or butter.

Even if you uare using already cooked chicken, this will help to flavor your cream of chicken soup.

Add your gluten free flour to the oil and chicken to make a gluten free roux.

Stir the gluten free flour into the fat and cook until it starts to turn golden and smells slightly nutty.

Youre still making a blonde roux, and not cooking it to a dark brown color.

You want your gluten free roux to have lots of thickening power , while taking advantage of the flavor that you get from toasting the flour.

Cooking the flour keeps your cream of chicken soup from tasting like a floury paste.

Then add the broth and milk and bring it to a simmer.

Let it simmer until thickened,

It will thicken up even more as it cools.

Now your gluten free condensed cream of chicken soup is ready to use in all your favorite recipes!

How To Make Chicken Noodle Soup Gluten

If you tolerate white rice, my favorite rice noodles are these Thai Stir Fry Noodles. I break them in half and cover them with luke-warm water to soften them as I work on the vegetables. Covering them with water also kick-starts the cooking process and will make the soup less cloudy since some starch will be removed when after draining and rinsing the noodles.

I also love this brand of sprouted ancient gluten-free grains. This is a great option when you have a little more time as you would have to pre-cook these noodles according to package instructions. The ancient grains takes a little longer to cook and will need more than just soaking them in lukewarm water.

Both of these noodles are free from egg, dairy and gluten.

Most store-bought brands of chicken broth, chicken stock, bone broth, bouillon cubes, or powdered broth base are not gluten-free. Make sure to check the label!

Low Fodmap Chicken Broth

Health Valley, Gluten Free Café, Chicken Noodle Soup, 15 oz (425 g)

Many store-bought chicken broths and stocks contain high FODMAP ingredients like garlic, onion, and unknown amounts of celery.

As an alternative, Fody Foods makes a low FODMAP chicken soup base. Just mix it with water for low FODMAP broth whenever you need it. Because a little used at a time, the jar also lasts for a while.

Depending on your grocery store, you may be able to find ready-made chicken broth without any high FODMAP ingredients. Ive listed several in my low FODMAP chicken broth post.

In my area, Ive had more luck finding chicken bone broths without onion, garlic, or celery.

Bone broth tends to be thicker than regular broth. If thats what I have, I will thin it out with equal parts of water to get the 8 cups needed for this soup.

How To Make Healthy Gluten Free Chicken Noodle Soup

Step One: First, start by heating a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Once the pot is hot you can add in the oil. For this recipe I like to use a good tablespoon of olive oil but you could also use avocado or coconut oil. Whatever you have on hand will work just fine! Next, add the diced onion and garlic to the pot and saute for a few minutes.

Step Two: Once the onion begins to become translucent, add in the chopped celery and sliced carrots and give everything a good stir.

Step Three: Next, add in your herbs, spices, and bay leaves! Stir in the fresh thyme , dried bay leaves, turmeric powder, salt, and pepper.

Step Four: Ok, now its time to add your broth and cooked chicken. Pour in the chicken broth and give everything a good stir. Bring the soup to a simmer and then cover with a lid. Let the soup simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.

Step Five: Next, give the soup a taste and add in extra salt or pepper if you feel like the soup needs it. Ok, now add in your dry gluten free pasta and let it cook until tender. This could take anywhere between 8-12 minutes. It just depends on the type of pasta you use. It usually takes around ten minutes for me.

Step Six: Last, but certainly not least, its time to freshen things up a bit! Stir plenty of fresh fresh lemon juice and fresh dill into the soup and then give it taste. Add a little more lemon juice if you would like and then serve with extra fresh dill on top. Enjoy!

Is Cream Of Chicken Soup Dairy

Cream of chicken soup is not dairy-free, as it usually contains cream of milk in some form or another. I havent seen many great dairy-free cream of chicken soup options at grocery stores, so making your own at home may be your best option.

You can make cream of chicken soup at home to be dairy-free, by substituting milk or cream for a dairy-free substitute, like oat milk, coconut milk, or cashew milk. Any dairy-free milk alternative is a good choice, but I particularly like any option that is thick and creamy, like a cashew, oat, or coconut milk.

If youve been wondering if you can enjoy cream of chicken soup on your gluten-free diet, I hope this post has given you some hope that it is possible!

If you loved this post, I hope that youll share it with your friends on and pin it for future reference on .
