How To Make A Bread Bowl

You can use any type of bread you wish but Im partial to this easy Brioche recipe. Once your loaf is baked, cut off 1/3 of the top of the bread and reserve. Then scoop out the insides of the loaf being careful not to bust through the side of the bread.

Transfer the Knorr Spinach Dip to the bread bowl and serve with the reserved bread torn into bite sized pieces.

Youre going to love this bit of nostalgia in your perfect party dip recipe. Serve alongside assorted vegetables and crackers for a complete dip party.

I combine sour cream, mayonnaise and Knorr Vegetable Recipe Mix into a bowl.

Make sure to squeeze all of the liquid from the spinach and add it along with the water chestnuts and green onions. Mix it all together really well, cover and refrigerate it for a couple of hours.

We love it so much sometimes it never makes it to the fridge to chill, thats okay too!

We love serving it with crunchy tortilla chips but carrots, celery, fresh broccoli or sweet pepper slices are always good too and a little healthier.

Although we make this all year long, it is a must-have for every summer cookout. I have even piled it onto a grilled burger. Dont knock it until you try it!

Appetizers are always my favorite part of any cookout or holiday dinner. Sometimes we just make appetizers when our family comes over for birthdays or small holidays.

Best Ever Bread Bowl Spinach Dip

Knorr Spinach Dip Recipe

Ive made so many spinach dip recipes over the years, but this one is far and away my favorite. The secret to it is using Knorr Leek Soup Mix. It can sometimes be tricky to find, but if you locate it in stores or online, I definitely think it is worth it.

This recipe uses a large sourdough bread bowl, but I also like to have extra bread cubes, like pumpernickel or French bread to dip with.

Recipe Tips And Variations:

  • Fresh spinach: To substitute fresh spinach for the frozen spinach, use a pound of fresh spinach leaves for every 10-ounce package of frozen that you need. Cook according to the package directions and squeeze dry in a clean kitchen towel.
  • Make ahead: For the best flavors, let the dip chill at least 2 hours. Or, make it a day ahead and keep it in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Artichokes. Artichoke spinach dip is hard to beat. Add one can of artichoke hearts, drained and chopped, to the recipe.
  • Baby shrimp. 1 to 2 cups of baby shrimp, cooked and shelled, make an already great dip even better.
  • Parmesan cheese. Freshly grated, or the stuff in the green can a little cheese gives an umami flavor.
  • Greek yogurt. A good, thick Greek yogurt lightens things up if youre looking for a healthy spinach dip.
  • Serve in a bread bowl. Usually people serve this famous spinach dip by spooning it into a scooped-out loaf of bread. Slice off the top of a round, rustic loaf of bread and hollow it out. Also, hold onto the lid and the inner bread chunks.

Ingredients You Will Need

Heres what you need to make your spinach dip:

  • Sour Cream I used regular sour cream but heres an excellent chance to lighten things up with a low fat sour cream, if you wish. It wont really alter the flavor much at all.
  • Mayonnaise Also, I use regular mayonnaise as it adds a nice, fluffy, creamy texture to the dip but you can use an olive oil based mayo or a low fat version if youre trying to keep things on the lighter side.
  • Water Chestnuts The texture of water chestnuts can be a little weird to some but if you chop them up finely they add a wonderful crunch to the dip. Dont skip them. Im not a fan and I love them in this recipe.
  • Scallions An onion-y bite with bright green color, this addition is fresh and flavorful. If you cant find scallions or green onions, chopped fresh chives add a nice mild onion flavor, too.
  • Frozen Chopped Spinach Yes, you can use fresh but youll need mounds and mounds of fresh spinach to start. Then, youll have to cook it down. Its best to start with frozen, thawed.and just stir it right into your dip. So easy!
  • Knorr Vegetable Recipe Mix Enough said.
  • Nutmeg The secret ingredient that will make your guests say hmmm. In the best way possible.
  • Worcestershire A splash, thats all you need. It adds that desirable umami flavor you hear about every now and then.
  • Salt and Pepper To taste, be sure to taste the dip and add salt/pepper as needed. The Knorr Vegetable Mix is flavored a ton so you wont need a lot of extra seasoning.

Best Spinach Artichoke Dip Is The Perfect Party Appetizer Make Ahead And Serve Hot Or Cold With Crackers Crostini Or Vegetables

It can be served with crudites, crostini or chips and even used as a spread on sandwiches. The problem is that it can also be very bland.

I have a secret weapon for my Creamy Spinach and Artichoke dip. Are you ready?

Leek soup mix.

Make sure you PIN Spinach and Artichoke Dip!

Yep. Soup Mix! Leek soup mix has herbs and spices already mixed in along with a subtle onion flavor. Allow it to marry with the creamy ingredients and re-hydrate for exceptional flavor.

Everyone will be asking your recipe and it is totally up to you whether or not you want to share it.

The other element that makes spinach dips different from each other is the creamy base. Generally, it is some mix of cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise and/or plain yogurt.

I find for cold spinach artichoke dip, yogurt works great. If I am going to spread it on a sandwich or even a tortilla roll-up, nothing beats a cream cheese-yogurt mix. Light, fluffy and slightly tart.

But for hot spinach and artichoke dip, I like the addition of mayonnaise and can give or take sour cream or yogurt.

PRO TIP: If you have just a little dip leftover, it makes a mean grilled cheese sandwich!

Mayonnaise is egg and olive oil base, so it keeps the dip moist but also helps it hold together instead of separate after being baked.

However, Ive been known to use any combination of the four depending on what is in the fridge. Feel free to play around with your ratios to find your own perfect spinach artichoke dip variation!

Tips For Making The Best Spinach Dip

  • The key to the perfect dip consistency is to drain the spinach well. Be sure to squeeze out as much liquid as you can after cooking the leaves. For best results, use your hands!
  • Frozen spinach is great for this recipe. But if you dont like its stringy texture, go for fresh.
  • This dip is already incredibly addictive as it is, and it doesnt even contain cheese. Can you just imagine how much more phenomenal it would be if you added mozzarella, parmesan, and cream cheese to the mix? Try it and let me know what you think!
  • Spinach and artichoke are a perfect combination. Go ahead and add some sliced artichoke hearts in there for more flavor and nutrition.
  • Everything tastes better with bacon, so why not throw in some crumbled bacon bits to the mix?
  • If you want to make your dip a little bit fancier, thats nothing some sun-dried tomatoes cant do.
  • For a healthier option, swap out sour cream for Greek yogurt.
  • For a meatier flavor and texture, drop half a cup of cooked mushrooms in there.
  • Love seafood? This dip tastes amazing with baby shrimp!
  • Serve the dip in a brioche bread bowl for a prettier presentation. Put a handful of crackers and veggie sticks on the side to complete the look.

Storing + Freezing + Make

  • How Long Can You Keep This In The Fridge? I usually only keep it in the fridge for 3-4 days.
  • Can You Freeze This? Unfortunately, you cannot freeze this knorr spinach dip with water chestnuts recipe. It would do serious damage to the deliciously creamy texture.
  • Make-Ahead Tips: Technically, this dip is best made a little ahead because it gives it time to set up and develop one cohesive flavor profile. It can also be made the night before, if that works better for your schedule. I suggest storing your dip in an airtight container in the fridge until youre ready to serve or spoon it into your bread bowl.

Making Knorrs Spinach Dip:

Knorr Spinach Dip from the 1980s: The Super Popular Go-To Dip and Snack!

But back to the dip~this dip is super simple to make, and is even on the packet of Knorrs. Im adding it to my site just because I want to keep track of it and the fine print is hard to read!! Its especially easy if you start with frozen spinach. You can cook it or just thaw it and use it raw. Whichever you do, its best to do it ahead because its no fun to wring out hot spinach and impossible to thoroughly wring it if it hasnt thawed. And you do want to wring it, thoroughly, preferably in an old towel. Just keep twisting the ends and twist and twist till you literally cant twist any more! Then let it sit for a minute or two and twist it again.

The real key to success is to cut the spinach very well and in small bits. Its like chopping cotton but keep at it. No one wants big strings of spinach in their dip and no one wants a string of spinach in their teeth!! If youre thinking about leaving the water chestnuts out, Id urge you to keep them. They might seem unnecessary but they do give just a bit of slight crunchiness thats so good.

How To Make Easy Spinach Dip Recipe

Grate the carrots and give them a rough chop. You want small pieces of carrot, not long shreds.

Drain and finely dice the water chestnuts. Finely dice the green onions.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, fresh lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

To the mayonnaise mixture add the spinach, green onions, carrots, and water chestnuts stir to combine thoroughly.

Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

Make it even prettier by serving it in a bread bowl. Use a large round sturdy bread. You want it to hold up to the dip being placed in the center.

Or if you are having a dinner party, try serving in dinner rolls for a single serving option.
