The most soothing, comforting, cozy soup for the flu season! Quick/easy to make, youll be feeling better in no time!

Happy Monday!

We just got back from San Francisco to watch the Dodgers versus Giants, and we ate so many Gilroy garlic fries and clam chowders in a bread bowl!

But as amazing as their food was at AT& T park, San Francisco is also super cold , which means Im now home with one of the worst colds ever.

Im currently on bedrest right now with a giant bowl of this soup. Its the only thing that is making me feel better at this point. And the garlic/lemon/ginger/lemongrass here is doing absolute wonders.

So as the weather cools down, be sure to stay warm and have this soup on standby! It will be a god-send!

A Few Notes About Using Rice In Chicken Soup:

While the soup is simmering on the stove, I make the jasmine rice in our Instant Pot. You can make it however you want, but the Instant Pot method is super easy.

  • Use a 1-to-1 ratio of rice to water. Rinse the rice in a strainer and add it to the Instant Pot bowl. Pour in the water and stir. For 3 cups of rice, I used 3 cups of water.
  • Cook on high pressure for 3 minutes. Let the pressure naturally release and your rice is ready to go.
  • Rice will change the texture of your soup depending on when you add it:

FOR SOFT TEXTURE: Our family prefers a creamier broth with really soft rice so we add it while the soup is still cooking, directly in the pot.

FOR FIRM TEXTURE: If your family prefers rice to have a firm texture, you will want to keep the rice separate from the soup. Just add a serving of rice to the soup bowls and then ladle the soup over the top. Then be sure to store the rice and the soup separately for your leftovers.

A Family Review Of Our Favorite Chicken Soup From My Husband And Kids:

Handyman Tim took one bite and declared this chicken soup: “Epic! This would be perfect soup when sick!” For a guy that is fairly stingy with his praises, this was a jaw-dropping comment.

Our chicken soup is a lot spicier than regular soup and it does a phenomenal job of clearing your sinuses. That is Tim’s very favorite part.

When I made it a second time, the spices seemed not as strong despite using the same quantities. So, be sure to taste test it before serving and adjust as needed. You want the cayenne and cinnamon to really show through so don’t be shy about adding a little more if it needs it. Your stuffed up sinuses need to feel the punch and your sore throat will love the lemon.

If you think your kids would shy away from the lemon and spices, you can always reduce the cayenne in the big pot and then just add a sprinkle to your own serving to kick it up. My kids have really learned to love spice thanks to this recipe.

If your kids are really sensitive, you might prefer this milder crockpot chicken soup. It is also made from a real raw chicken breast, but is a little bit easier for you to make with less hands-on time.

With flu season at it’s feverish peak right now, I wanted to share this with you. The chicken soup recipe makes a nice big batch so you’ll have plenty to stock your freezer with single-serving containers for emergencies. Cook up a batch now because it is one of the best things to eat when you have the flu.

Aimes Big Batch Chicken Noodle Soup Recipe

Its currently a white-out on the homestead, as the first big storm of winter is blanketing the place in powder. Im thrilled at the prospect of a white Christmas and even happier that I have a stash of homemade chicken soup in the freezer for snowed-in suppers like tonight.

I always make an enormous batch of this simple soup before the holidays as it seems like a necessary antidote to all the rich food and sweets to come. I also simmer it in hopes that it will help us combat the seasonal maladies that are always going around. This nourishing soup is such a well-rounded family meal, and that certainly aids my intentions to eat better this month.

In addition, is there anything more comforting than a bowl of chicken noodle soup? Mine uses fennel alongside celery for a fragrant mirepoix and occasionally has a grating of ginger in the broth to help fight colds. I think this soup is special, its certainly practical, and today Im sharing my method for making a nice big batch.

Do I Have To Make The Roasted Garlic For This Soup

The roasted garlic takes a little extra time but it sooooo worth it. Roasted garlic has a sweeter, milder flavor and is perfect for picky kids.

Noone wants to take a bite of soup and crunch down on a big chunk of garlic. When you roast it, the cloves are so soft you can just mash them with a fork. When you stir in the mashed, roasted garlic, it will simply dissolve into the broth leaving behind all the garlic goodness without any of the crunch.

Easy Cooking: Chicken Soup For Someone You Love

Instant Pot Chicken Soup for COLD and FLU (8 Minute Cooking Time)

I threw this chicken soup together two years ago for a friend with pneumonia. My physician father always says chicken soup has verifiable medical benefits. My wife, who I met five years ago to the day I started writing this, appreciated that I made her chicken soup when she got sick early in our relationship. Make this soup for someone you love or care about who is stuck home sick. We could all use an extra boost, especially during the isolation of the pandemic.

The recipe is the first I really wrote down, mostly because it turned out so well, even though there is no much special about it. My better half suggested an important tweak, cooking the onion some before browning the chicken. The rosemary is not strictly necessary dried thyme leaves work fine but adds a lot. The Costco rosemary plant we bought in 2020 has proved extremely hardy, despite my overwatering.

One thing I need to mention, I made a kind of demi-glace from my failed gravy for this Instant Pot whole chicken recipe , skimming the fat then freezing in cubes. Two or three demi-glace cubes do wonders for chicken soup and other suitable dishes.

Most measurements are approximate and this recipe is easily modified. I made it with an Instant Pot in about an hour flat if memory serves, but am also including instructions for a large pot on a stovetop.

    Sent by Kim

Editor: Your best bet is to freeze the soup, then ship it in a cooler with dry ice to make sure it doesnt melt during the journey. I would also recommend not adding noodles to the soup, as they dont hold up as well in the freezing process. If your daughter doesnt mind cooking noodles and then adding them to the soup, that will yield the best texture!

    How To Make Chicken Soup:

When I went hunting for a real-deal homemade chicken soup for the flu, I only found recipe after recipe that called for adding pre-cooked chicken meat to boxed prepared chicken stock. Those recipes are easy and better than canned soup because they involve fresh vegetables but they don’t have the same benefits as chicken soup from scratch offers.

To make the kind of chicken soups that really work as home remedies for colds and flu, you need a few crucial ingredients:

    • a whole raw chicken
    • a big pot of water
    • fresh vegetables
    • herbs and spices

This recipe is the best home remedy for cold and flu because it also adds fresh roasted garlic, lemon juice, spicy cayenne pepper to the broth. Garlic, lemon, and spicy seasonings are each known home remedies for cold and flu.

    Sending Get Well Gifts

The Best Chicken Soup You’ll Ever Eat

Here are a few tips for sending gifts.

  • Send gifts that are occasion appropriate. If you are expressing condolences to a friend on the loss of a loved one, you probably wouldnt want to send them a romantic gift like chocolates or jewelry. Instead, you should look for a gift that conveys sympathy, imparts comfort, and is unique enough to convey to let them know that you care about them personally. Spoonful of Comfort offers a great way for you to send soup as a sympathy gift.
  • Send gifts that connect with the recipient in a unique or meaningful way. It is always more meaningful to receive a gift that you know the sender put some real thought into. Gifts that spark nostalgia or connect the recipient to a shared experience with the sender are always more meaningful. If you really wanted to make an impact to your friend who recently lost a loved.
  • Send gifts with a personalized hand-written note. In the age of abbreviated text messages and mass emails, there is nothing more refreshing than a note that someone actually took the time to write and sign.
  • There are many unrecognized occasions for gift giving. In fact, if you think about it you can probably come up with a reason to send at least one person a gift every day. Some of the occasions and opportunities to send gifts are as follows:

    • Send Get Well Gifts
    • Send Mothers Day Gifts
    • Send Fathers Day Gifts
    • Send Holiday Gifts
    • Send Thinking of You Gifts
    • Send Congratulations Gifts
