How Much Homemade Soup Mix Do You Add For A Packet

Lipton Onion Soup Dip Mix – SUPER YUMMY Party Recipe!

You will probably not need a one-to-one substitution for the dry mix. Keep in mind that the mixture is based on onion flakes. Two tablespoons of onion flakes is the equivalent of 1/2 onion.

Start with the following and adjust to suit your tastes.

Onion dip: 2 tablespoons of the mix to 1/2 cup sour cream

Pot roast: 4 tablespoons sprinkled over a pot roast plus 1/4 cup water

Soup, stew, or chili: 3 to 4 tablespoons

Meatloaf or meatballs: for every pound of meat add 2 tablespoons plus 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, 1 egg, and 2 tablespoons tomato sauce or ketchup

Burgers: for every pound of meat add 2 tablespoons

Made In Under A Minute + Variations

MIX. Mix together well and keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Variations:

  • Add some spice: you can easily kick the heat up a notch by adding red chili flakes or a splash of hot sauce.
  • If youre not a fan of sour cream you can easily use plain geek yogurts, mayo or softened cream cheese. You can even mix and match to make a combination you love.

For Homemade Dried Onion Seasoning use:

  • 2 ½ tablespoons dried onion flakes
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon dried parsley
  • ½ teaspoon salt

We love to make this homemade too since we always have these ingredients in the pantry.

Homemade Sour Cream And Onion Dip

Sour Cream and Onion Dip is a great appetizer to serve with chips and a Veggie Tray at holiday occasions, parties, and other get-togethers, but those mixes are just junk. Good thing you can make it homemade without any packaged soup mix!

With just four ingredients, this homemade onion dip is great paired with other appetizers such as Healthy Spinach Dip and Homemade Seven Layer Dip. Be sure to serve the leftovers on baked potatoes for a fun topping.

Everyone loves a good dip. Am I right? Dips make football games more exiting. Dips make backyard BBQs more fun. Dips make the world go round. Too bad the commercial varieties are full of junk.

Thankfully you dont need a dip mix. You can make sour cream and onion dip homemade!

Saving Money & Other Options For Classic Liptons Onion Soup Dip:

First of all, Classic Liptons Onion Soup Dip beat the pants off any store-bought dip Ive hadand was much cheaper! The mark up on a store-bought dip is incredible. Watch for sour cream on sale, usually around every holiday. Sour cream keeps for weeks and stays fresher if it is stored upside down. It might be a bit messy when its opened, but try it and see if you dont notice a huge difference in the freshness.

As far as the actual Liptons Onion Soup Mix for this dip, check for your spices and herbs in the bulk section of the store and they may very well cost less. The best part of that homemade mix is that you can control the ingredients, especially the bullion. Go for something inexpensive or if its your jam, go for high end organic, or something in between. And if you dont want to make your own Liptons Soup Mix, youre always welcome to just buy a packet.

Now, Im not going to ever imply that Classic Liptons Onion Soup Dip is an absolute match to my recipes with the slowly cooked caramelized onions, but it has a definite place in my repertoire of Onion Dips and I know Ill probably be making my Classic Liptons Onion Soup Dip a lot more often than those that take so much work and time.

The Classic, cool creamy dip!

Two Ingredient Creamy Onion Chip Dip

French Onion Dip, or sour cream and onion dip, has always been a staple appetizer of so many picnics, parties and game days. Sometimes homemade, sometimes from a plastic tub at the store, but almost always at the party.

While I dont mind munching on the store bought variety, we all know homemade party dips are much betterand this French onion dip is so easy that it basically takes less work than going to the store for the already prepared kind!

This is a sour cream and onion dip using French onion soup mix. While you can use a store-bought packet, I highly recommend using a homemade mix. Its easy to make and keep on hand for recipes like this and usually more flavorful than a packet from the store.

The Worcestershire sauce is the secret ingredient in this French Onion Dip recipe. While I know of people who will whip this up using only the French onion soup mix and sour cream, I find that to be a little boring and by just adding a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. So much extra flavor is added.

This party dip literally takes 3 minutes to prepare its THAT easy! Just remember to prepare it a few hours before party time as it should refrigerate for 2-3 hours. If youre short on time, its also a great dip to put together the night before.

Kettle cooked potato chips are my go-to for party dips like this one because I love the crunch and subtle flavor but of course you can serve this French onion dip with your favorite chip.

A Box Makes It Easy Right

Dry onion soup mix is what I used in high school when I was first learning to cook, a go-to seasoning for pot roast, stew, meatloaf, and of course, sour cream dip. I dont think our family ever used it as a soup, but it was mighty fine mixed into things as a seasoning.

Once I grew up and had my own kids to feed, I realized that the super seasoning was also pretty chock-full of junky ingredients, excessive sugar and salt, and weird stuff I cant pronounce, even with a graduate degree.

Party season is upon us so its super handy to have an arsenal of quick party food that you can whip up no matter how busy you are.

And while I always prefer cooking from scratch when I can. Some of my favorite easy dips are olive tapenade and hot onion dip made entirely from scratch, youre missing out there are many times when I simply dont have time to make it from scratch.

And this French Onion Dip made with French Onion Soup Mix has saved me many times. MANY times!

Even though its made using a French Onion Soup Mix, my twisted logic tells me that because I didnt buy it in a tub from the store, it is semi home-made.

And I can absolutely promise you, it is BETTER than store bought because its creamier. So many French Onion Dips sold at stores are rock hard when cold so the chips break when you try to scoop up dip. This French Onion Dip is soft even straight from the fridge no more broken chips!

There are versions of this made with just sour cream and French Onion Soup Mix. But I really feel that the addition of mayonnaise makes a huge difference adds richness and more layers of flavor.

Onion Soup Mix Dip From Scratch

This Onion Soup Mix Dip from Scratch is the bomb. Just like I remember that dip from way back when I was a kid. That stuff was super yummy. But, it used to have beef in it, so this vegetarian gave up eating it.

I dont know if it still has beef in it or not, but it definitely has some preservatives, and as I learned recently it isnt available everywhere, so its great to be able to mix up your own Homemade Onion Soup Mix.

How Can You Save More When Making This Recipe

Consider these strategies from the Good Cheap Eats System to help you lower your costs even more:

  • Use what you have. While the onion flakes, salt, and pepper are required for the recipe, you can take a little liberality with the other spices, swapping in whatever youve got in the house, such as oregano for the thyme, chili powder for the paprika, and onion powder for the garlic powder.
  • Make a plan for leftover ingredients. One batch of this mix will probably serve you for at least two recipes. Make sure to use it all so as not to waste it.
  • Visit the store with the best prices. The cost of herbs and spices can vary widely from store to store. Compare prices so you know where to stock up.
  • Check the sales and clearance. When you see great prices, load up on these ingredients so you can have your own onion soup mix whenever you want.
  • Buy spices in bulk. I love shopping at Costco to save a few dollars. Instead of paying a few dollars for a small jar of garlic powder or onion flakes, I buy larger container for even less!
