How To Make Chicken Gumbo Soup:

Start the Chicken Gumbo Soup by browning 3 strips chopped bacon in a large Dutch oven or soup pot over medium heat. Remove the cooked bacon to a paper towel lined plate then set aside, leaving 2 Tablespoons bacon drippings in the pot.

To the bacon drippings add 1 chopped small bell pepper 2 chopped celery ribs, and 1 chopped small onion.

Season the veggies with salt & pepper, then let em sweat for 5 minutes, or until theyre on their way to becoming nice and tender. I cannot HANDLE crunchy veggies in soups, so I like to let them get really soft!

To the softened veggies add 1-1/2lbs chicken breasts cut into bite-sized pieces and seasoned with salt & pepper. Seasoning each layer of ingredients will ensure our dish tastes just right in the end.

Also add 1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning to the chicken. I was originally going to add cayenne pepper, but found this baby while rifling through my spice cupboard. It gives the dish an awesome, not-too-spicy red pepper and garlic flavor, plus it has paprika in it, which gives the soup a brilliant orange color. Never did find the cayenne pepper

Next add 2 cloves minced garlic, let the chicken cook for 5 minutes, then sprinkle in 1/4 cup gluten-free flour and stir constantly until the flour turns golden brown. This process creates the roux I mentioned, which gives the soup a rich, decadent flavor, and makes it thicken up nicely too.

Bring the soup and spices up to a boil, then add 1 cup long grain rice, and give the pot a big ol stir.

Whether youre a seasoned gumbo eater, or new to the dish, promise me youll try this easy Smoked Sausage and Chicken Gumbo. Rich, hearty, and warming, itll keep you cozy on the coldest of winter nights.

Start by browning 14oz Andouille sausage in 1 teaspoon grapeseed or vegetable oil in a 6+ quart Dutch oven or soup pot over medium-high heat. Andouille sausage is similar to kielbasa, and is so, so delicious. Its smoked, a touch spicy, and comes pre-cooked. All you need to do is slice then sear it up until golden-brown and sizzling.

I used Johnsonville brand which is gluten free.

Scoop the sausage onto a plate then set aside. Next season 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs with 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning on both sides. Place the thighs into the Dutch oven skin-side down then sear for 3-4 minute a side. They dont have to be cooked through at this point.

Heres the Cajun seasoning I used on the chicken thighs, by the way. Well also use it in a bit to season the gumbo as a whole. The blend of spices is perfect I have, cough, three of these little canisters in my spice cupboard right now.

Transfer the seared chicken thighs to the same plate as the sausage then set aside.

Now its time to make the roux, which will thicken and flavor the gumbo. First though, take the Dutch oven off the heat to cool for a couple minutes. The roux is made from oil and flour and since the Dutch oven retains heat very well, we dont want it to burn the roux.

    Substitute For Chicken Gumbo Soup

When started thinking about writing this article about the chicken gumbo soup substitute, I remembered something that I used to love and still love, let me just explain what I mean.As a kid, I was forced by my parents to eat vegetables, but like any other kids, I didnt like them.I was more into sweet things, cakes, candy, cola, ice cream, and the list goes on and on

I remember that mom used to cook for us this kind of soup it was thick and full of all kinds of vegetables, as Tunisians, we call it Broudo in french or Brudu in English.Somehow I liked it, not at the same level as all the sweet things but it was better than all the things that I didnt like.It was the combination of the vegetables the meat and the thickness of the soup I think what makes it special to me.Later on, as Im growing up I realized how vegetables, fruits, meat, and fresh food in general, are needed and really good for our health.well, chicken gumbo soup isnt any different from our Broudo soup, I think its just two names for one thing, to better understand me lets jump to the next section.

How To Make Gluten Free Gumbo

Step One: The first step is to brown the diced chicken thighs in a little avocado oil. While the chicken is browning, season it with a little salt and pepper.

Once the chicken is mostly browned, add in the smoked sausage and allow the chicken to continue cooking until it is done. Then, remove the chicken, sausage, and any remaining liquid from the pot.

Step Two: Next, its time to make the roux. Add the diced butter butter to the pot and let it melt. Once the butter is melted, youll whisk in the flour to create a thick paste.

Let the flour and butter mixture cook over medium heat, whisking frequently, for around 20 minutes until it becomes a dark rich color. As it cooks, the roux will become less like a paste and a bit more of a liquid consistency.

Step Three: Once the roux has reached the right color, the work is pretty much done! Next, youll just need to add the tomato paste, cajun spice seasoning, bell peppers, onion, garlic, and celery to the hot roux and allow everything to cook for a few minutes until the veggies start to become tender.

Next, add the herbs, diced tomatoes, okra, chicken stock, coconut aminos, hot sauce, and cooked chicken and sausage back to the pot. Give everything a good stir and bring to a boil. Once its boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer and cover. Let the gumbo simmer for an hour.

Step Four: After the gumbo has been simmering for around an hour, the final steps are to thicken it and add in the shrimp!
