We were supposed to get on a flight to Philadelphia this weekend bags were packed and we were ready to roll. But as we waited by the gate, the flight kept getting delayed due to mechanical issues. I already have anxiety with flying so I grabbed my bags, my corgi and drove back home. And it was the best decision ever.

So instead, we picked up a box of Firecakes Donuts and drove down to Indianapolis to spend Fathers Day with Bens family. You know, in the rainstorms and all the tornado warnings. We took cover in his parents basement with a box of La Croix, Bud Light, and White Claw.

We were set.

Now in all this Indy downpour, all I can think about is this one pot French onion soup.

Rest assured those Michelin-starred French chefs are not crazy, French onion soup is a recipe that is absolutely divine. And it is actually quite easy to make at home.

Legend has it became famous after being served to Stanislas Leszczynski, the Duke of Lorraine and ex-King of Poland. He was served the dish at an inn on his way to visit his daughter, Marie. Marie just happened to be married to French King Louis XV.

Apparently Stanislas was so taken with the soup, he demanded the recipe and had it prepared and served to the King Louis XV, who adored it as well. And thus a culinary delight was born.

Q: I had amazing French onion soup the other night, and I am excited to add it to my winter soup rotation, but need to find a couple of oven-safe bowls for the critical cheese-melting step.
