Slow Cooker Pork Roast
I tried this cut of meat when it was on sale, and for lack of any other ideas I took suggestions from the back of the label, with a few tweaks . This is a very popular dish at our house, and it could not be easier! Instead of rubbing the roast with the onion soup mix and then adding the cranberry sauce, you can also just mix the onion soup mix with the cranberry sauce and pour the whole mixture over the roast.

1 package dry onion soup mix |
1 can whole berry cranberry sauce |
2 tablespoons butter, or to taste |
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, or as needed |
salt and ground black pepper to taste |
Steps:
- Rub pork roast all over with onion soup mix and place roast in the slow cooker. Pour cranberry sauce over roast.
- Cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours. Remove roast to a platter, reserving juices in the slow cooker.
- Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Whisk flour into melted butter to form a paste. Pour reserved juices from the slow cooker into the butter mixture, whisking constantly, until gravy lightens in color and thickens, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve gravy alongside roast.

- Youll need the following:
- one envelope of onion soup mix
- a few peeled potatoes
- a handful or two of baby carrots
- salt, pepper, and olive oil

Slow Cooker Pot Roast Recipe
1. Heat oil in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat and brown roast.
2. Arrange carrots and potatoes in slow cooker. Top with roast and set aside.
3. Combine Lipton® Recipe Secrets® Onion Soup Mix with water in glass measuring cup. Add to skillet, scraping up any brown bits from bottom of pan. Add soup mixture to slow cooker. Cook covered on Low 8 to 10 hours or HIGH 4 to 6 hours. Remove roast and vegetables to serving platter.
4. Thicken gravy, if desired, by combining additional 1/4 cup water with 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour. Cook on HIGH 15 minutes or until thickened.

- You can use fresh or dried thyme leaves. If using fresh, double the amount .
- If you dont have a can of French Onion soup, use a packet of onion soup mix and 1 cup of water.
- A little brandy or sherry adds nice flavor .
- Be sure to let the roast naturally release for 10-15 minutes before releasing the pressure for the best, tender results.
You can either shred the pot roast after it is cooked, or leave it in large chunks. I prefer the shredded version, where the meat goes back into that yummy onion gravy!

Chuck roast is probably the best if you ask me, and pretty cheap too. If you want a bit leaner cut, but willing to spend more you could use a sirloin, top rump or fillet.

Do you have to brown a roast before putting it in the Crockpot?
It is not a must. Some prefer to have the outside browned with some olive oil in a pan on the stovetop before cooking, but to make prep quicker you can skip that step.
Should I turn roast in slow cooker?
This isnt necessary either. The steam and hot liquid will get the top and bottom just as tender. You can if you really think you must.
