How To Make Slow Cooker Chicken And Dumplings

Simple Homemade Chicken and Dumplings | SAM THE COOKING GUY

Every good Chicken and Dumplings recipe starts with a good chicken soup base.

That includes using either boneless, skinless chicken breasts or chicken thighs. The choice of which one to use is up to you.

Because the chicken is cooked in broth, both will provide you with moist and juicy chicken pieces once cooked. Therefore, I typically choose to make this recipe with chicken breasts.

Next will come the typical chicken soup vegetable ingredients. Diced onion, celery, carrots and garlic are used to help make this a hearty soup. But the addition of thyme is what gives Chicken and Dumplings that classic flavor!

However, unlike our Rustic Chicken Soup Recipe, this recipe has a creamy soup recipe. Therefore add in some evaporated milk to make the cream base.

Evaporated milk makes the soup creamier than when using whole milk. Plus it is healthier than using heavy cream.

The soup is now ready to be cooked! Place all the ingredients in the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 3 hours, or LOW for 7 hours.

Of course, the cook time will depend on the brand of Slow Cooker that you have. We have a Crock Pot 6 quart Programmable Slow Cooker and the chicken was cooked in just 2 1/2 hours on HIGH. However, I find that our slow cooker cooks hotter than most.

Shred The Chicken and Thicken The Sauce

Once the chicken is cooked through and tender, remove the chicken pieces from the slow cooker into a shallow bowl or on a cutting board.

How Do You Know When Dumplings Are Done Boiling

Bring the water back to a boil and as soon as they start floating to the top, add another cup of cold water. Again, when they start to float they should be done. Taste and if not done, add some more cold water and wait until they float again. When they are done, strain and serve with your favorite dumpling sauce.

Filling: Chicken, Cabbage, Onion, Green Onion, Tofu , Chicken Broth , Shiitake Mushroom , Water, Garlic, Sesame Oil, Sugar, Soy Sauce , Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Salt, Chicken Flavored Powder , Ginger Powder, Gelatin, Yeast Extract, Black Pepper.

Surprisingly easy to make at home, this chicken dumpling soup is hearty, wholesome and so incredibly delicious!

I dont know why, but for many years of my life, the thought of plopping homemade dumplings into a from-scratch chicken/veggie soup was always super intimidating.

Like, why even go there when you have chicken noodle soup and chicken pot pie and chicken noodle stew and other chickeny, vegetabley favorites? Know what I mean?

It wasnt until I tried my Aunt Marilyns amazing chicken dumpling soup that I kind of got it. A) it was actually embarrassingly easy to make emphasizing all the lost years of my life I had lived in intimidation and B) its pretty much one of the best soups ever.

My family can attest to that. They go crazy over this soup. Its easily one of their favorite meals of all time, and Im sitting over here thrilled that I can fulfill all of their wildest winter soup dreams with minimal effort.

This recipe is a huge favorite for many of you, too.

Note: I used a stand mixer to mix the dumpling dough, but you can use a food processor like I did for my cast iron pizza or by hand.

To cook the dumplings, I used the pressure cooker function on the Ninja Foodi. If youre using a pot on the stove, simply cover it and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Neither way is superior, though the pressure cooker is a little bit faster.

How Long Do You Put Potstickers In The Air Fryer

Cook in batches in the pre-heated air fryer for 3 minutes. Use tongs to flip the potstickers and cook 3 minutes more.
