The 90s Comedy Sketches And Signs Of Early Hair Loss
Before he was a name in Hollywood, Joel did try doing comedy. As such, he was involved in a Seattle-based sketch called Almost live, where he was a cast member for three years.
Looking at his photos from that show, you can tell he was suffering from hair loss. He was in his mid-twenties then and to have a receding hairline at such an early age must have been hard.
Why Would He Have A Transplant
The first thing you have to keep in mind is that Joel was on TV and as you already know, looks sell. Hair does make part of how attractive one appears. Female celebrities will often be judged for their hairs fullness and style while the male ones will be judged by how much volume they have.
You can imagine how much pressure Joel was under with losing his hair and trying to maintain a successful career in Hollywood. The need to have a full head of hair might have forced him to get a transplant.
Now, most celebrities who get such procedures prefer not to have that information in the public domain but with Mr. McHale, we feel that we may be onto something as the star has implied severally that he may have had some work done on his scalp.
Joel Mchale Talks ‘soup’
The E! host answers reader questions, about everything from his personal TV tastes to who exactly is in his audience
Joel McHale, host of E!s The Soup, suggested we title this article Joel McHale: Televisions Roofie. But there was at least one problem with that analogy: His strength does not go undetected. Readers of EW.coms PopWatch blog made their appreciation of his celebrity and reality-TV skewering skills known when they declared E! one of their five must-have cable channels just so they could watch him. And because McHale has four new specials to promote the first, The Soup Presents: Pretty, Stupid Models, premieres March 17 at 10 p.m. ET he agreed to answer questions submitted by those readers.
McHale phoned us March 6, right before taping an episode of The Soup , and clearly, he had a lot on his mind: Would his in-studio guest, his favorite member of The Bad Girls Club, Tanisha, beat his ass? What happened to those Dina Lohan jokes he read earlier? Did Kady Malloy just get kicked off American Idol? And will his answers to these questions shorten his career?
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So, youre answering reader questions. JOEL McHALE: My answers will be a little different than what youre used to. A lot of like, Mmm, f you.
Theyll love that. Okay, good. Im just trying to think of other things that I can say that are inappropriate.
Really? Lee, do I give out my e-mail to people all the time? Did you hear that?

Joel Mchale And ‘the Soup’ Go Live For Their 500th Episode
E!’s gleefully irreverent clip show The Soup celebrates its 500th episode tonight by going live twice: once for the east coast, once for the west. And though the milestone episode has host Joel McHale and EP/head writer K.P. Anderson feeling nostalgic, it won’t be a bundle of old clips. I think we, as a show, do better when the material is fresh and we have new jokes,” Anderson says.
They underplay the risky nature of a live broadcast as McHale puts it, We’re doing it live isn’t that so exciting? Yeah, like how they did television for years before tape was invented?” but it will likely not be easy. McHale started shooting Season 5 of his NBC sitcom Community on Monday, so that shouldn’t be a problem at all, he says. I’ll be shooting 14 or 15 hours a day, then coming in on Wednesday and, like , ‘Alright, let’s knock this thing out!’ Also, McHale is dyslexic: So it should be a really interesting live taping.
The “Soup” crew is used to high-pressure, minimal-rehearsal situations. They’ve been shuttling back and forth between L.A. and Atlanta because McHale has been shooting films in New York while on hiatus from Community,” often taping in Rachael Ray’s studio.
The TV landscape has changed in the ten years since The Soup debuted, and the show has changed with it. Reflecting on the time, Anderson says, When we started, Kelly Osbourne was a teenager. Now E! pays her more than Joel, drawing cries of mock outrage from the host.
E To End Joel Mchale’s Long
In its description of the revived show, E! noted the Brazilian-born Catta-Preta whose credits include MTVs Girl Code and Comedy Centrals will cover the entertainment world with an irreverent sense of humor and sharp point of view, with the new version of The Soup still covering reality TV moments, viral videos and everything in between.
Catta-Preta becomes the latest host of The Soup, joining a club that has included Greg Kinnear, John Henson, Hal Sparks and Aisha Tyler as well as McHale. The franchise has aired more than 3,300 episodes. Sue Murphy, Dwight D. Smith and Michael Agbabian executive produce.

This Show Contains Examples Of:
- Ambiguous Syntax: Regarding a reality show called What!? I’m a Stripper, Joel can’t figure out what inflection to use when saying the show’s title. It could be read with confusion or belligerence .
- Ax-Crazy: Joel McHale is not above kidnapping celebrities, regularly shooting interns and trying to kill
Joel Mchale Hair: The Long Journey To The Truth
You probably know him from the comedy series Community or TV show The Soup but you cannot deny that Joel McHale is a good-looking man with a full head of hair. Now, before his popularity, he had been in numerous other projects and if you knew him then, then you know that his hair certainly looks different- in a good way though.
Back then he looked like he had a serious case of hair loss so the biggest question would be, was Joel balding at some point in his life? We think so.
However, looking at him now, it is hard to believe that he suffered hair loss in the past. You are probably wondering what he did to restore his hair right? Well, all signs are that he underwent a hair transplant some time in the late 2000s.

What The Critics Are Saying:
- Instead, Catta-Preta has no problem doing things like impressions of a Bachelor contestant who will be reality-show-famous for about five minutes. Shes also nudging the audience at home and saying, We know this stuff is the phoniest stuff, but isnt it fun to watch? Thats a way to go, of course, but when the clips are funnier than the set-ups and post-clip jokes, thats a problem. We dont want to tune into The Soup for lame jokes about the hosts dating life or jokes with butter-knife edges. The show is about funny clips and the even funnier host. Lets hope that Catta-Preta and the shows writers find the sweet spot that makes her comments as or more funny than the clips while keeping her desire to be less salty than previous hosts.Joel Keller, Decider

The 2000s Spiderman 2 And Various Tv Shows
Although Joel didnt do as many films, he was certainly making a name for himself with TV shows.
Notably, even as he was inching closer to advanced hair loss at a young age, his hairline seemed quite stable in the early 2000s. Its like he had managed to apply brakes to it. This is probably when he started using propecia or something.
When you compare this picture with the one from the 90s, his hair looks almost the same.
That said, the looming bald patch was still haunting the actor. Despite all the hairdos and makeup. Thats probably why he decided to take his efforts a notch higher.
And, in 2009 Season 6 Episode 12 of The Soup, he allegedly made a joke about someone leaving their car lights on, and the license plate saying Shameless Plugs. Then he added Oh wait, thats my car. That perhaps alluded to the possibility that he benefited from hair plugs around that time.

The Soup Is Coming Back To Tv But Not With Joel Mchale
ByLaura Hurleypublished 11 November 19
E! had a good thing going for more than 20 years with The Soup , which featured a host tackling some of the biggest, most memorable, and most unusual pop culture and entertainment events of a given week. The show came to an end in 2015, with Joel McHale seemingly as the last host The Soup would ever have. Now, that’s not the case, as The Soup is returning to E! with a new host on board.
The Soup will return in the not-too-distant future with comedian and actress Jade Catta-Preta on board as host, and the new series will be “reimagined.” Having appeared in previous TV projects like Future Man, Manhattan Love Story, and Californication, The Soup should show off a different side of her and perhaps provide a much bigger break into showbiz. After all, who had really heard of Joel McHale before he took over The Soup hosting duties back in 2004?
Joel McHale isn’t the only host who went on to bigger and brighter things after The Soup. Back when the show was still called Talk Soup, Greg Kinnear was the first host, and he was followed by Josh Henson, Hal Sparks, and Aisha Tyler before the switch to The Soup and McHale.
Obviously it’s too early to start thinking of what’s next for Jade Catta-Preta after The Soup considering the new Soup hasn’t even premiered yet, but E!’s success with Joel McHale may be proof that the folks at the network know what it takes to find a great host for the Soup style.
Joel Mchale On Going Live For ‘the Soup’s’ 500th Episode Dream Guests And The Show’s Legacy
On August 21, “The Soup” will celebrate its milestone 500th episode by going live for both its East and West Coast airings — a feat that will be made all the more impressive because McHale apparently has “full on dyslexia … I think it really brings a sense of danger,” he quipped to a group of reporters gathered after the comedy show’s 499th taping.
According to McHale and executive producer K.P. Anderson, the 500th episode will be structured much like any other “Soup” installment, with the added high-wire act of going live — and two sets of guests — but without a retrospective element. “I think live is pretty much the trick,” Anderson said. “Well have a couple of little surprises along the way with our special guests. I think we, as a show, do better when the material is fresh and we have new jokes.”
“Yeah, it should just be the show and sure the jokes are dynamite,” McHale agreed. “We’ll learn real quick if they’re not … It’s so funny, because we’re like, we’re doing it live, isn’t that so exciting? Yeah, like how they did television for years before tape was invented!”
McHale is the first to admit that no one envisioned the series lasting 500 episodes. “We have a 50-year plan. This is phase one. It’s complete. Phase two is the next ten years,” he joked. “I never thought it would go this far. No one ever thought that.”
“The Soup” 500th episode airs August 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on E!, and will stream live on Eonline and TheSoupTV.com.

The Soup: Stream It Or Skip It
Opening Shot: After the standard opening montage of goofy reality show, internet video, and other scenes, the first new episode of The Soup in over 4 years starts with new host Jade Catta-Preta talking about how she watches the hundreds of hours of clips that are boiled down into one episode. Who needs friends and a life when youve got TV, TikTok and a box of wine?
The Gist: This is more or less the same Soup that ran from 2004-15 with Joel McHale as host. Remember that it was a callback to Talk Soup, which was hosted by Greg Kinnear, John Henson, Hal Sparks and Aisha Tyler, except that the shows McHale made fun of was expanded from daytime talk to reality shows and the burgeoning internet video trend. There was also a studio audience, and McHale and the shows writers came up with a number of fun recurring characters.
So, this show is in that spirit Catta-Preta, a stand-up comic and actress, presents clips from various reality shows, YouTube videos, court shows, and a scripted show or two. Theres an audience, who react to the jokes Catta-Preta makes to set up the clip, then the jokes she uses after a funny clip plays. There are categories of clips, and then the Clip Of The Week.
That was McHales calling card , and his deadpan cracks about the clips had more than enough snarky edge to give you the nod that youre not the only one who thinks these shows are ridiculous.

Joel Mchale And His Hair Transplant Journey
Let us now get into how Joel McHale looks now.
Looking at him now, it is like you are looking at an entirely different person. If you are awed by how the stars hairline transformed from being so low to the attractive full mane he is rocking currently, you are not alone.
Joel still has a high forehead but we have to give credits to his surgeon for a job well done. His transplanted hair looks perfect. Not all hair loss surgeons out there can do such a perfect job.
Unfortunately, Joe is yet to make it clear where he underwent this transformative process. That said, hes on record saying that the whole job was done in USA. He even cautions people against going for cheaper overseas options.
