What The Critics Are Saying:

The Soup 2011 03 04
  • Instead, Catta-Preta has no problem doing things like impressions of a Bachelor contestant who will be reality-show-famous for about five minutes. Shes also nudging the audience at home and saying, We know this stuff is the phoniest stuff, but isnt it fun to watch? Thats a way to go, of course, but when the clips are funnier than the set-ups and post-clip jokes, thats a problem. We dont want to tune into The Soup for lame jokes about the hosts dating life or jokes with butter-knife edges. The show is about funny clips and the even funnier host. Lets hope that Catta-Preta and the shows writers find the sweet spot that makes her comments as or more funny than the clips while keeping her desire to be less salty than previous hosts.Joel Keller, Decider

Joel Mchale Seems To Miss Community More

Joel McHale has occasionally indicated he misses hosting the show, but in an interview with Larry King Mchale spoke more about his time on Community than he did about his time hosting The Soup. He also talked more about his fellow Community alumni like Alison Brie and Donald Glover and praised their success. McHale is quicker to bring up Community in his interviews than any other show hes done. He also defended Chevy Chase, to a minimal degree. During the interview, The Soup! was only referenced in passing. Joel McHale has never spoken poorly about his time hosting The Soup!, he just seems to talk about Community more.

Need A Laugh Relive Joel Mchale’s Funniest E Moments

Joel McHale is back on E! and better than ever.

The actor and comedian made his triumphant E! hosting return on the new series Celebrity Beef earlier this month. But the funnyman was an E! mainstay for over a decade before he helped celebs squash their beef on the cooking competition show.

McHale hosted the long-running pop culture talk show The Soup from 2004 to 2015. Whether he was cracking jokes about TV’s wildest moments, hanging with a colorful cast of characters or poking fun at other E! shows and the network itself , his comedic wit and charming personality established him as one of the funniest hosts on television.

The star has had quite a career outside the world of E! as well, having starred in hit shows and movies like Community, Stargirl, The Great Indoors, Ted, Happily and Queenpins. He briefly returned to E! in 2020 as a contestant on Kevin Hart‘s at-home game show Celebrity Game Face alongside his wife Sarah Williams.

Why Would He Have A Transplant

The first thing you have to keep in mind is that Joel was on TV and as you already know, looks sell. Hair does make part of how attractive one appears. Female celebrities will often be judged for their hairs fullness and style while the male ones will be judged by how much volume they have.

You can imagine how much pressure Joel was under with losing his hair and trying to maintain a successful career in Hollywood. The need to have a full head of hair might have forced him to get a transplant.

Now, most celebrities who get such procedures prefer not to have that information in the public domain but with Mr. McHale, we feel that we may be onto something as the star has implied severally that he may have had some work done on his scalp.

Joel Mchale On Going Live For The Soups 500th Episode Dream Guests And The Shows Legacy

On August 21, The Soup will celebrate its milestone 500th episode by going live for both its East and West Coast airings a feat that will be made all the more impressive because McHale apparently has full on dyslexia I think it really brings a sense of danger, he quipped to a group of reporters gathered after the comedy shows 499th taping.

According to McHale and executive producer K.P. Anderson, the 500th episode will be structured much like any other Soup installment, with the added high-wire act of going live and two sets of guests but without a retrospective element. I think live is pretty much the trick, Anderson said. Well have a couple of little surprises along the way with our special guests. I think we, as a show, do better when the material is fresh and we have new jokes.

Yeah, it should just be the show and sure the jokes are dynamite, McHale agreed. Well learn real quick if theyre not Its so funny, because were like, were doing it live, isnt that so exciting? Yeah, like how they did television for years before tape was invented!

McHale is the first to admit that no one envisioned the series lasting 500 episodes. We have a 50-year plan. This is phase one. Its complete. Phase two is the next ten years, he joked. I never thought it would go this far. No one ever thought that.

The Soup 500th episode airs August 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on E!, and will stream live on Eonline and TheSoupTV.com.

The Soup: Stream It Or Skip It

Opening Shot: After the standard opening montage of goofy reality show, internet video, and other scenes, the first new episode of The Soup in over 4 years starts with new host Jade Catta-Preta talking about how she watches the hundreds of hours of clips that are boiled down into one episode. Who needs friends and a life when youve got TV, TikTok and a box of wine?

The Gist: This is more or less the same Soup that ran from 2004-15 with Joel McHale as host. Remember that it was a callback to Talk Soup, which was hosted by Greg Kinnear, John Henson, Hal Sparks and Aisha Tyler, except that the shows McHale made fun of was expanded from daytime talk to reality shows and the burgeoning internet video trend. There was also a studio audience, and McHale and the shows writers came up with a number of fun recurring characters.

So, this show is in that spirit Catta-Preta, a stand-up comic and actress, presents clips from various reality shows, YouTube videos, court shows, and a scripted show or two. Theres an audience, who react to the jokes Catta-Preta makes to set up the clip, then the jokes she uses after a funny clip plays. There are categories of clips, and then the Clip Of The Week.

That was McHales calling card , and his deadpan cracks about the clips had more than enough snarky edge to give you the nod that youre not the only one who thinks these shows are ridiculous.

Joel Mchale Speaks Highly Of His Time On The Soup

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly where he answered readers questions, McHale said he enjoyed hosting the show because it was buried so deep on cable that he could get away with saying whatever he wanted about whomever he wanted, that he was free to mock any celebrity, including ones who worked on the same network as him. He could also be much more risque and raunchy than he could on other programs. In short, he had much more creative freedom and more freedom to be his edgy sarcastic self than he would have if the show had manifested any other way. In a later interview, McHale said he owed his entire career to his time hosting The Soup!

Now, before his popularity, he had been in numerous other projects and if you knew him then, then you know that his hair certainly looks different- in a good way though.

Back then he looked like he had a serious case of hair loss so the biggest question would be, was Joel balding at some point in his life? We think so.

However, looking at him now, it is hard to believe that he suffered hair loss in the past. You are probably wondering what he did to restore his hair right? Well, all signs are that he underwent a hair transplant some time in the late 2000s.

Joel Mchale And His Hair Transplant Journey

Let us now get into how Joel McHale looks now.

Looking at him now, it is like you are looking at an entirely different person. If you are awed by how the stars hairline transformed from being so low to the attractive full mane he is rocking currently, you are not alone.

Joel still has a high forehead but we have to give credits to his surgeon for a job well done. His transplanted hair looks perfect. Not all hair loss surgeons out there can do such a perfect job.

Unfortunately, Joe is yet to make it clear where he underwent this transformative process. That said, hes on record saying that the whole job was done in USA. He even cautions people against going for cheaper overseas options.

Joel Mchale And The Soup Go Live For Tonight’s 500th Episode

Soup‘s on! The E! clip show that specializes in skewering the world of reality television celebrates its milestone 500th episode tonight by airing two live shows for both coasts. “I’m very much looking forward to it,” host Joel McHale told reporters after wrapping the show’s 499th episode on Aug. 14. “Also, I have full on dyslexia, so that should be great. I think it brings a sense of danger!”

The episodes will feature brand new clips and special guests including The Office star B.J. Novak and radio DJ Adam Carolla. “We’re going for dudes with short, very dense black hair,” McHale joked.

The Soup premiered on July 1, 2004 and has since established itself as a cultural influence throughout the world of television, from poking fun at The View and telenovelas to spotlighting home shopping channel gaffs. “There were shows that put us on the map like the way we’d make fun of Tila Tequila or Pants Off Dance Off,” McHale said. “Being Bobby Brown was earth shatteringly good for us because that show was really nutso.”

While McHale has seen his fair share of terrible programming, there’s one show that pushes him to his limits. “Big Brother drives me out of my mind,” McHale revealed. “I think if I were to go to hell – excuse me – when I go to hell, it will be the Big Brother house. Enjoy conspiring and whispering for eternity.”
